FOSTA and its Implications(dun dun duuuuun)

I'm going to say the same thing I've said on every site.  FOSTA is bad legislation.

I hate pedophile artwork in any form, including cub ... and Inkbunny is a den for such, but FOSTA is bad legislation.

I'm all for shutting this place down, but not like this ... not like something that will chill free speech across the board.

This is bad law, and as much as it pains me ... I am with you ...

Retarded commenters will be blocked/ignored/reported.  Remember, I still hate the pedoporn this site promotes, but the method that's being used to combat it is an anathema to me.

There is a delicate balancing act ... and while this site has crossed the line (in my opinion) ... we shouldn't have to stomp on everyone's freedoms.

It seems that some folks pushed for a bill and got more than what they bargained for.
Things could go back to all porn being illegal like it was before the days of Larry Flint for all we know.

I notice there is an ex-post-facto "retroactive" clause to that bill:
I remember when I was in middle school, one of the things we were taught in history class was that among the many things the American colonists fled England over, one of them was ex-post-facto laws...That was on a long list of other reasons our history teacher taught us why the colonists fled England during the 1600s and 1700s.
We were taught that as Americans, we would never be subject to ex-post-facto laws in this country (one of the many things that "makes America so great"). It seems our history teacher was a liar during the school year of 1968 - 1969 and did not realize it back then...For that matter, every history teacher in America who ever taught their pupals they would never be subject to ex-post-facto laws were made liars by the ex-post-facto provision in the FOSTA bill.

If ex-post-facto laws are allowed to be passed, the things you did that were legal in the past doesn't have to have been "stupid things"...For examples;

#1 let's say you are 60 years old and older, and motor vehicle records show you purchased a brand new Oldsmobile Cutlass back in the year 1970. Back in 1970, the brand new 1970 model automobiles did not comply with the emission standards of today...They could retroactively arrest you today for driving around in a non-compliant motor vehicle from the year 1970 through the 10 years or so you owned the car until it wore out and you finally got rid of it.

#2 Let's suppose the government finally outlaws possession of firearms in the year of 2030...They could arrest you in the year 2030 for owning the guns you have today.

#3 If in the year 2020, they lower the speed limit on a certain highway from 70 mph to 55 mph, and they can prove back in 2015 you drove at 70 mph on that highway when the speed limit was 70, you could still get many speeding tickets for each time they can prove over the years you used that highway before the new speed limit went into effect.

#4 And here's one to think on...If they ever make LGBT marriages illegal again... "Ho - lee - shit"...just think of all the people who were in LGBT relationships when it was still legal who would get rounded up regardless and retroactively arrested.

If ex-post-facto starts with the FOSTA bill, that's the camel getting his nose into the tent for other things.

I'll leave this comment with this thought...They claim the FOSTA bill is aimed at stopping sex trafficking (which should be stopped).
My two most recent postings within the past week features a meerkat cub which involved a pornographic situation.
Anyone who could in their mind link those postings to sex trafficking has a way bigger whopper of an imagination than I can ever begin to give anyone credit for having...That would have to be someone why I've once heard a church pastor say, "The most dangerous nation on Earth is imagination".

My problem is ... there is existing laws on the books ...  Seriously, if the FBI/CIA cared ... this site would be toast  ... because they don't want competition.  So ... why was this pushed?  Oh, right ... to restrict freedoms ... it's what government always does.

And it was done the same way as any other shady legislation ... in the dark of night and buried as deep as they could in the news cycle.

What are the freedoms in particular they are going after with the new bill?
I viewed some YouTube sites on it, and I get the signals that they are zeroing in on sex trafficking.

It's already having a chilling effect on free speech as a whole.  Many places I go to are nervous as cats in a room full of rocking chairs, because as we've seen from the Snowden revelations, the PATRIOT act wasn't exactly used as intended.
