Patreon

I'm working on setting up a Patreon account since I don't think I'll be getting my job back after the pandemic eases up.

Anyone have any honest thoughts or feedback on how I can go about making one successful?

So far I have incentives such as exclusive art, a monthly calendar piece, progress updates/previews, reduced commission prices, and raffles for free art periodically.

Any and all thoughts are welcome and appreciated! ♡

I am very on the fence when it comes to Patreon in general. While I adore the idea of supporting artists for little bonuses and discounts, the administration staff is starting to become more and more like FurAffinity. Accounts can be suspended without warning, for the most minor of infractions. And while they give a basic glossing over of what you can and can't do, I've heard several horror stories for adult artists.

Some have even gotten in trouble for just linking their viewers to NSFW rewards in the messaging system. Not even on the public page, in the messaging. Plus, there was that debacle where they announced they may track their users' activity off-site to ensure they weren't using their funds for things that went against their ToS (essentially they said they may perform an illegal act to intrude on their other sites and possibly their banks).

Content-wise you would be fine, so long as what you post is SFW or otherwise restricted from public view. But in the case of the raffles, you'd literally have to converse with the winner on a separate system so they can't track your message activity, and refrain from posting the reward if it's NSFW.

Sad to say a lot of fundraiser sites are very Puritan in their tolerances, so it's a rocky ship, especially since SFW is harder to get marketing for unless it's something like a game. I'd definitely still recommend continuing to post that you are open for commissions in case it falls through.

If you decide to go through with it, I'd research other Patreon pages and see how they handle their tiers, and then use your best judgment from that.
