So, Telegram is not very suitable for what Domo and I wanted to do for a Camp Pines chat/community. I had messed around with potentially making an IRC server that might be able to do it, but hosting (as usual) is a problem. Domo may not even be able to make a telegram account - we've tried before, but had some issues with it. But I thought I'd give this a go anyways. Not really sure how it'll go, or if this group will even stick around. But, here is a time limited (1 day) invite link, just to get started.
If hosting is an issue for them setting up IRC, Matrix is going to have the same issues.
Is the goal to host your own server, or create a community on an existing server? I know in Matrix you can have completely separate communities hosted on the same server, not sure how that would work with IRC.

They made a Discord ages ago but it's been kept under lock and key for a long time. I don't know if it even still exists cause I haven't heard anything about it since. Some people get away with it but it's because it's they either ban the "main draw" of the server (like Kitt & Fallow's server), so it ends up existing more for networking, or because they limit who's allowed in to the point that 95% of people will never get in.

Same... GV number for my TG... once I set it up, I can log in to the web client with a code sent to Telegram on mobile... or the desktop app (there's a "portable" version that doesn't require install) via a QR scan on desktop from mobile. I haven't had to use GV beyond the first setup.

Ah, that sucks. I found a service a while ago that let me rent a phone number (with text ability) for a certain amount of time. The big issue with that is if you ever need to use that number again, I'm not sure you could request the same number again, but maybe some let you do that. i don't remember which one I used, but I see lots of options if I google "rent an sms number"
