this part of my story is called "Me and the Grill of the Gods": it was summer of '76, my first year of college, and I had to share my apartment with one of the friends I made at Bible Camp that year (see the story "Lucky Number Seven").
we had a giant grill, but theoretically we were not supposed to grill in our apartment complex, because then they would have to do maintenance to the outside grill, and we would have to buy more propane for it... anyway, that's why we had our second story balcony with two swings and no steps, which was kind of our party porch.
we decided we would have a cookout.
we also had a pretty large crowd, because i had made sure to invite my friends from Delta Sigma Gamma.
