13900k or 7950x to pair my 4090 ?

by
I'll be upgrading from my 5950x
I narrowed down my options to these two CPUs .
an i9 13900k or R9 7950x ?

What do you suggest  I should get ?

I can only afford one for now since DDR5 6400  is kinda expensive .

I think if you are going to use the pc for art and stuff I would go of the i9 and it's a good cpu for gaming

And you need it for what exactly? lol

i9 i guess if you want the absolute peak performance. cool the shit out of it though or else it undervolts and you may as well not have upgraded at all lol.

if you can wait, AMDs 3D versions of 7000 will be insane but that gonna be a while.

think of it this way if you buy into ryzen you can build for the next chip if you buy into Intel it is the end of the line for that socket.
If you ask me I would build for Ryzen with more bang for your buck and when their 3dx chip comes out from the 7000 it is going to blow everything away.

Yeah like this, I suggest AM5 too as, seeing you are upgrading from a 5950x, you will probably be upgrading somewhat fairly often so this way will save you needing to buy a whole new motherboard.

That is, if AMD and Intel release new motherboard sockets for their chips like they usually have been.

Id stick with the Intel, and you dont need an i9, as an i7 or even i5 will work just as well for alot less, and unless you intend to do some serious overclocking to the point of meltdown on a constant basis with super cooling, you can skip the 'K' (unocked) series. Most users do not need or use so you can save money there. I didnt think the 13th gen cpus were even out yet, pretty cool.

Your 5950x is plenty to run your 4090.  You don't need to upgrade.  If you do feel the need to upgrade, find the tightest timing DDR4-3600 you can get your hands on, while it's still available, and get as much of it as you can.

That's a nice video, but it's only relevant for those running Zen 1 or 2 as a means to encourage a drop-in upgrade to Zen 3.  Sure, if you're running a Ryzen 1000 or 2000 series, get a 5800X3D and call it a day.  Even an unoptimized DDR4 setup or 300/400 series motherboard will see a massive improvement with a 5800X3D over any Zen 1 or 2.

But we're talking about a 5950X to 7950X or 13900.  A 16 core, 32 thread chip to a one generation newer 16 core, 32 thread chip, or to a 24 core, 32 thread chip that can easily gobble 300 watts on it's own, and requires bleeding edge OSes to run it correctly due to it's CPU core design.

Sure, will the OP see an improvement in going from Zen 3 to Zen 4, or 13th gen?  Absolutely.  But is it going to be worth the easily $1000 USD that's required to facilitate such an upgrade?  I personally don't see the point, unless the OP is using this machine as a workstation to make money on.

I don't think a 4090 is safe yet unless you have exceptionally good airflow or cooling.
