It's no use

As of yesterday, I have been desperately trying to make my art profitable for 20 years. Here's to another 20 years of having every effort I make systematically boycotted by those trying to set my life goals further and further beyond my reach. And of monster fetish comics.

I'm sorry to hear of the struggles, and wish I could offer support.  Just want to say that your art has brought a lot of joy into this world, for myself and others.

I wish you the best. The art you post here is one of the greatest I seen. But life wants to be a bitch... you need to grab it by the scruff of the neck and make it your bitch.

Not easy to do, I know. But I wish you the best while I bang my head against my art/writer's block.

The economy in most countries is pretty dogshit these days.  I know that's no consolation and I do hope things turn around for you, but there are a lot of people not doing great.  Probably a good deal of your watchers.  Including myself.  It would be nice if we all got some sort of upswing.

There is a saying, "an artist suffers"...I believe it.

Wait, is someone *actually* boycotting you?

To some degree. Everyone around me in real life expects to put all my efforts on my "real" job instead of trying to make art my only job. And the more effort I put on my "real" job, the more time I'm expected to invest on it. No one cares what our goals are, only what they're supposed to be.

I don't know your story but I believe they may genuinly thinking helping you this way, because comic artist isn't a life. And somehow, it is true, it is an extremely difficult path that more than rarely succeeds. Ask all the successful artists around, most of them might have had the same experience about their close ones trying to discourage them "for their own sake". This means all those successful artists are extremely strong people for having been able to resist the market AND their families and friends.
If you want to reach that dream, FIGHT!!
Yes, that's easy for me to say, yes, that might be a little depressing to hear, but I know you know WE are behind you like the first fans of those famous cartoonists were    :-)   :-)

Thanks! Now that I have my own place and once I'm done paying my mortgage, I might have a lot more freedom to take risks. Fingers crossed!

I am very sorry to hear that youhave such struggles you are a great artist .

One of the problems I think is that it’s hard to really suport someone that has a big impact  regular , most people have their  own finances struggles and are not able to pay or send money of for art every month .

I still hope you can go on and I am sorry I don’t can support you more than try to get some pics now and than

Sympathies.I've had a hard last couple of decades myself.

If you'll pardon the imposition, I want to ask something. Why do you want to make a profit? You're already making the art. Is it just so you'll have more time to make more art, if you don't have to do a different job to make ends meet? Or is the profitability of the art more important than the art itself?
DrJavi

I don't really care much about money, I'm extremely low maintainance. But I would spend all day making art if I didn't have to have a "real" job on the side.

Is it that you prefer art, but like your job, or do you hate your job? I got the impression you do like your other work, but it's not your calling.

Making money with art isn't easy, and most of the time the way people do it is kinda dishonest, I think. These days, there's an interesting alternative. Folks have tried out different patronage systems, so that people can pay them to do what they do, rather than paying for copies of what they make.

That said, I'm still tremendously frustrated by what happened with Dwarf Fortress. If you're not familiar, and I don't imagine you would be, there's a game that two brothers have been making together for the last 20 years or so. It's called Dwarf Fortress. They were able to survive and keep going based on the donations they got from the game's many fans. People loved it and wanted more so they paid them, and the brothers kept making more. But, they got ill enough that they couldn't afford to live with just that.

They teamed up with some other gamedevs to make a more polished graphical release of the game, and publish it to major storefronts. On release they pretty much instantly made millions, making all the money up until then seem like drops in a bucket. I'm very happy for them to be so rewarded, but the fact they could only get people to pay so much for it by putting it in a 'box' and selling copies is really frustrating to me.

At any rate, I hope we can all pursue our passions more than anything. Good luck and thanks for reading.

Thaaat's a big mood. I just wanna like work maybe 2-3 days a week and then spend the rest of my time writing porn lol. But living ain't free, and porn ain't paying that much. Sucks too because you can't just do the creator part, right, you gotta manage your pages, communications, build a website? how do? Graphic design (hard for a writer hah), etc. All the admin shit, it's exhausting.

Sorry to hear that your close ones do not care about your wishes and dreams and only about a "perfect" image.
It's tough for everyone in a "society", but all time tougher for artists.
Can only wish you to get your dreams regardless what anyone else thinks!
Remember that there are always people that trully LOVE and support what you do. ^w^

On no. Was your mortgage boycotted?

I hope you can find a balance between work and art. I really enjoy your creations and think you deserve to do things you enjoy.

Nope, my mortgage was accepted and I could successfully purchase my new home. Once I'm done moving there, I should have a lot more time for art.

I know your pain I have a couple of family members that have tried to support themselves with art because of physical difficulties. It's not an easy Road and they haven't been able to do so either. I help him out when I can but Money's been tight all over

The couple of pieces I've gotten from you definitely rank as some of my favorites and I personally like the monster fetish myself. If I had more money I would throw it at you too, lol. Hope you never give up on it because your stuff is amazing!

Sorry to hear things are like that.  I know a few artists where it's like that, balancing work and art and people want them to focus on the work and see art as a distraction.  I say show them they're wrong.  I've been enjoying the comics/stories you've put out as well as the art I've seen since coming upon your work.  It sucks so many awesome artists have things so rough, here's to hoping things start getting better for you and many others.

I may not have told you, but you were one of my early influences in art. Selling art is hard, you're not alone in this struggle, for what it's worth. But you've left a strong impact on people like me, one of the people who helped me push into art. I'll always be grateful for that. It's been inspiring all these years as well to see you grow so much. ^ω^

I'm sorry that you've been struggling with making a living out of this, art is definitely a super challenging format nowadays since there's so much competition. I do love your work, and I hope to see a lot more moving forward as well. Here's hoping you can find some balance which does allow you to move forward towards your goals. I know I've had to recontextualize some stuff I wanted in life into "where's the cross section between what I want to offer and what people are willing to invest into to receive." Sometimes you give a little to gain more I guess.

Do you have ways you're thinking of adapting your process to make it work out? Do you look at the approach other artists might be taking and what's working for them and how, in relation to what your approach is?
DrJavi

I have contingency plans. I will need some time to put them into action, but things should gradually stabilize.

Look on the bright side - you do not have to WORRY about profit. You have a steady job, you have tenure in a few years, and you will always have the means to afford art as a hobby. Compare that someone who is stuck trying to make rent with commissions. Would you prefer that state of affairs?

I understand your frustration. I really do. Same here. But consider that it also affords you the freedom to make the art you want.

And you still have your fans :) You have fame, in a way. Your stories might get reposted even in 200 years.
