Update: FA is asking for feedback. Please give it to them.

The post in question: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10560608

It seems that FA is finally entering a phase where they want to start saving face. The most recent update came with some periphery kink changes as well as a change of date that the policy is dropping. (From the 1st of June to the 7th)

I understand that a lot of us in these communities and especially in this fight are very tired. (I personally thought I’d spend this time trying to promote my game on here. Which is coming out on the 9th. The fact that this will continue till the 7th means I probably just… won’t be able to do that)

But this is probably one of the best times to push for change. FA’s reputation is so far in the ground at this point it might as well be burning in hell. It’s the only reason why they are trying to save face now, rather than their consistent strategy of just ignore and censor everyone. While I’m not gonna stop you from just telling them how shit they are (Cause they 100% deserve it). I don’t want to miss this opportunity to push to ensure the safety of our communities and the livelihoods of the artist still working in them.

Below I’m posting what I’ll be writing on my feedback ticket. Feel free to copy it, use it as a template for your own ticket, add your own ideas and demands. Or if you disagree with my approach, to send one with your own views.

Regarding Upload Policy Section 2.7

Upon hearing these policy changes, I was instantly struck with how pointedly geared they were for abuse, and unfair treatment targeted directly at the Pokemon and Digimon communities. And none of the addendum’s so far have properly addressed the core issues of the policy.

To ensure the safety of these communities, change MUST be made to address the core failings surrounding the policies’ vagueness, and material assurance needs to be baked into the policy to ensure the Pokemon and Digimon communities aren’t treated differently from any other.

Firstly, the vague and non-quantifiable definition of childlike proportions, “Generally speaking, as characters age, their proportions change...” Means that the only metric for if something has ‘childlike proportions’ is that an FA staff said so. And this means the accused doesn’t have any grounds to argue against abuses under this policy, and ultimately whether the accused art falls in violation is completely up to the bias of the enforcer. Definitions around what is going to be under violation need to be exactingly clear, and quantifiable. With a reasonable minimum number of traits present to trigger a violation.

Secondly, if the policy is truly not targeting the Pokemon and Digimon communities as FA staff claims. The policy needs built in measures to make sure that fair treatment actually happens. If the same body proportions in an accused piece of work is found inside allowed work in any other fandom (Like Animal Crossing, Sonic the Hedgehog, Zootopia, My Little Pony, and General Furry) That piece of work CANNNOT be found in violation. And any false takedowns must be reversed immediately!

———————————————————————————————————-

To send an FA support ticket, click on the three lines on the top corner of the screen. Under the ‘Trouble Ticket’ category, click report a problem. Then change the category to feedback.

FA also suggests joining their discord, but I wouldn’t do that in a million years.

FA can die a slow painful death as far as I am concerned. What they have done over the years they deserve it.

I understand wanting to see FA gone. I have no love for the site, but also understand the reality that lots of artists in our community have livelihoods tied up with it. Artist that are not only innocent, but often actively under the sites harassment. If I could snap my fingers and have it gone, I wouldn't. Best I can hope is a mass exodus from it's users to a replacement site.

Be careful what you wish for.  Sometimes the walls are to keep them in, not you out?  ;)
I'm imagining a bunch of ban-heavy core left behind and then sudden exodus like roach-infested luggage spreading and trying to infest everywhere else.

I figure the next thing to get on the chopping block is vore.

The core failing of these policies has always been the idea that minors are somehow being harmed by these drawings.. that said.. I just feel this "closing the 1000-year-old loli vampire loophole" thing is just born out of laziness (if not outright just banning kinks they don't like, which is of course more likely). Best case scenario it's just something to excuse them from having to actually look at context (which they laughably claim to consider) to determine a character's age--something that should always be up to the discretion of the character's owner, not FA staff. I mean they're essentially denying character owners the agency to decide characteristics of their own damn characters.

There is SORTA an argument to be made as much as I hate to admit it. Most cub art the story just works out and everyone enjoys it. There isn’t a whole lot of art of the repercussions. All it takes is for some idiot to convince themself that the minor will enjoy it to completely fuck up someone’s life long term.

That said I would still argue for allowing cub art over banning it as I strongly disagree with censoring it. I just think we should be reminding each other every so often, even if we believe they know already, that this is only acceptable in our own fantasy land where everything just works out except when it’s the kink that it doesn’t work out.

The problem is that in THAT argument you have to start with the assuption that its the drawings that turn the already twisted individual into a violent criminal which is practically the same logic as the "video games cause violence" or the "banning gays will make them cease existence".

If we would have a peer-reviewed, multiple times checked and proven true research repeated by many people around the globe that would link together these actions then i would agree with the banning and censoring but soo far no one ever managed to prove anything and the only researches that have been made on this idea are highly questionable and several were proven wrong already.

That’s a legitimately fair argument. I had not considered the similarities to the violent video games argument. That said I think there is a key difference.

In pretty much every game you are either the good guy who is killing what is clearly defined as the bad guy, or you are the bad guy in which the game clearly conveys that the things you are doing are bad. With rape art too, I don’t think I have ever seen a piece where the rapist is portrayed as morally justified.

With cub art however, unless it’s rape content, the story almost always portrays it as a form of bonding. There are very few cub artists who will ever have their adult character portrayed as a bad guy unless again it’s supposed to be non consensual. It isn’t sexy, and nobody wants to be reminded what the outside world actually thinks of cub.

I am very confident that at least 99.99% of people on this platform properly understand that the content on this site is fictional. What I am not confident about is whether the people on this platform are effectively communicating where the line is between fiction and the reality that inspired it is. There are legit idiots out there who think pedos should be included into LGBTQ+ and that it shouldn’t be illegal because it isn’t harmful to children. There are legit artists on this platform who have stopped drawing cub because a follower said they wanted to do the things in their art IRL. I have actually heard stories of artists asked to use real life CP as reference for a drawing.

I’m not gonna blame IB or it’s users for these idiots. But I do think as proponents of cub we have a duty to perform a sanity check and remind people that kind of shit isn’t ok.

But the porn is not what's causing it. There are other, unaddressed mental health issues within our society that, far as we know, contribute substantially more to sexual abuse of children than attraction to minors itself. You can't JUST be attracted to minors and see consensual stories and go off and rape a child, that's not how it works, and countries with more relaxed laws on the subject see a DECREASE in sexual crimes, not just against minors, but across the board.

Nah, let FA hurry up and die off already, at this point. Now is a good opportunity to push people to give other, vastly better platforms like IB a chance. This whole debacle is just the latest in over a decade of miss-steps and mismanagement. The site still looks and acts like something from the 00s for crying out loud. There's no saving it at this point. Get people to try other options.

This is an opportunity to get change. Just don't start thinking FA has turned a leaf and is good now, this is a result of them trying to improve their reputation, that's all.
MystBunny

Though I wouldn't say them deciding to ban teen pregnancy on the grounds that they're afraid people will fap to it is really a good change.

I suppose, but we already know which feedback they're going to listen to and which they will ignore.

I’m sorry. History repeats itself with FA. It’s not healthy to participate in their circular feedback loops. They aren’t listening. They never have listened. We’re all here for a reason.

Whether it was the great cub migration thing
The sonic age up thing
The Pokémon age up thing
Or any of their things.

They all have the same thing in common.

They release a shitty controversial change. Their userbase cries fowl and begs for FA to listen and change
They don’t change and double down.

You have to let them go. I’m sorry. It hurts me to say this as much, but you know it to be true.

And even if they do let your content slide because you’re popular, think of all your peers that won’t get the same answer that you do. Sometimes you have to do something in the best interest of community instead of you.

Who’s to say they won’t do this again with feral characters in a year or so.

I understand this, it's why I've been trying to push for rule changes that wouldn't be filled with bais and prefer popufur's and people related to FA's internal team. I don't care if FA loses all it's users, I care about the artists who have their livelihoods tied up  in the site.
TalentlessHack

True, there's only so much we can do to fight for artists rights before we start having to consider our mental health as well.

I have spent 7 days fighting for good change, fighting for artists. I put my artwork aside and my animation work on hold because it was important to me.

But it's clear to me that they are dragging this out in hopes of people forgetting. They aren't going to go back on anything.
We have swathes of backlish, their like to view ratio on twitter is in the dumpster (1:5000) There is just no way they're listening to us at this point.

Save your mental health and help people move to places that will care about their creativity.

And don’t take what I’m saying as some impersonal thing. I’m hurting too. I’ve been hurting with FA for a long time
I always participate in their feedback loops, spending large inordinate amounts of my time pleading with them, always to be let down

I’ve been with FA since 2006. It hurts just as much, trust me. You’ll find a way friend.

I understand that you want to fight against FurAffinity this badly for the sake of the community. But I feel like FurAffinity is hurting the community more than it helps it.

What makes FurAffinity that good of a site in your eyes? Is there really a reason for you to save a site that hasn't implemented things the community wanted for years? Are the problems the majority of the community talk about with FurAffinity really showing that this site is helping the community, if the staff won't even listen to them? What exactly do you think does FurAffinity provide for the community in your point of view?

FA isn't good at all. But I understand the reality of the situation, people's livelihoods are tied up in that site unfortunately. And it's unfair that FA get's to use those people as hostages essentially. But I don't want to let my desire for perfect situation stop myself from people who need help RIGHT now.

If I could move everyone off the site and onto replacement sites with their audiences intact, I would. But that's well beyond my reach as a person, and the extremally tight timeframe this threat has us under.

Or

Reminds me of a narcissist quote:
"I promise to be better this time!"  <--  After 100th time.
I'm joking - that would require admitting guilt in the first place and not redirecting it!

Seriously, the Discord option was a joke.  Removing forums right before this, no comments on site updates, kicking people who didn't automatically agree, etc.  This was as close to virtual putting fingers in ears as you could get.
