WHAT - THE - F***ING - F*** - TWITTER????

I've got a Twitter account linked to my Google account, that seems to have been created four monthes ago. In fact, I don't even REMEMBER creating one, I don't know if I made a wrong click or what... And since it's automatically linked to my Chrome browser, I just stepped in, to see it has been locked because I broke some Twitter rule. I NEVER EVEN DID ANYTHING ON THIS ACCOUNT IN FOUR MONTHES.

Every day I see at least a couple persons saying their Twitter account has been locked for breaking rules reason, BUT THIS IS JUST INSANE!!!!!!!!!!

Edit - I was creating this journal while answering Twitter email to get an explanation from them, and just before completing it, just got their very fast answer:

"We’re writing to let you know that your account is now unlocked. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

A little background: We have systems that find and remove automated spam Twitter accounts, and it looks like yours was flagged as spam by mistake. This can happen if an account exhibits automated behavior in violation of our rules.

We apologize for the mixup, and hope to see back on Twitter soon.
"

This is extremely concerning. As I just replied them:

The way you told me things, I don't see if the problem lies within your system or my account, as told in those two following sentences:

First sentence
"We have systems that find and remove automated spam Twitter accounts, and it looks like yours was flagged as spam by mistake"
--> how can an inactive account get flagged as spam account, when it's exactly the opposite behavior???????????

Second sentence
"This can happen if an account exhibits automated behavior in violation of our rules."
--> This is a LOT more concerning, this would mean there is something or someone who was actively doing actions with my account without my knowledge/consent. This is where I would require further explanation and maybe logs from you if that did occur. If it's somebody, I'd like to know what did he do, when, and if possible, how he got hold of my account. But if it's something, the problem is extremely serious, and in complete violation of the RGPD principles...........................

"We have systems that find and remove automated spam Twitter accounts, and it looks like yours was flagged as spam by mistake"

Maybe this is a reference on your inactive account seemingly appearing as created by a bot. Created but not used, and may be used for whenever the time is right. Twatter might have pre-judge such created-but-not-used accounts as possible hacker accounts, created by bot...thus spam account.

"This can happen if an account exhibits automated behavior in violation of our rules."

Same as the first reason. The account was created by a bot (and not by you...lol) but not used yet. Hacker/Spam Account confirmed. No activity on it needed, because the simple act of existing-without-activity/reason IS suspicions activity!

If this is as I wrote above...Twatter is a silly place. Glad to have it avoided for my entire life...just as Tik Tok, and the rest of the major social sites. Tumblr was great before the Great Porn Purge, then it went dead/boring too.

Wording/Phrasing/wordplay is confusing. One of my own weapons as an Evil Black Dragoness.

But irl...things do get sometimes very confusing, and as an office worker, I tend to do second and third readings of new orders and papers and even consult others to make sure we are thinking the same about it, and that we all understood it. I am trained to analyze corporation stuff like this. Not an expert, just above normal human level really...

And with that said, I am just too speculating here. It may be smarter or dumber...Results what counts here, so get back your account! ~☺

There is a company called Massengeschmack. They got banned, because being minor. So the owner of the COMPANY did sent them a copy and letter and everything they wanted to show "No, I am not a minor." and Twitter then said something like "Don't use the information of your parents, that is a violation." Like I said, the owner himself did write to Twitter to open the account again, since he definatly is not a minor. He is like my age. And I saw his company grow from the start, like his first Videos on youtube and how he got his own website and his own production company. This guy is definatly not a minor. But on Twitter, he is in a loop. I think he allready called a lawyer because of Twitters stupidity.

I had the same-ish (and very BAD) experience with my copy of Diablo III.

I left my account on hiatus, because doing the same thing over and over was very repetitive, and I took a half-year long vacation from the game. Half year latter, I try to log in, and my Battle.net account was closed. I asked Blizzard-Activision Support why was it locked, and they answered, that I was inactive for too long, and they have closed my account to protect it. I asked them to open it. Not so simple! They told me to give them ALL my IRL info with phone number and all. I wasn't okay with that, since Blizzard-Activision had trouble keeping personal info secret, and had leaks before. They offered another solution:

I should buy an Authenticatior from them...for even more money and postal address so it can be posted. Yeah, I bought the game, and they close it off from me, so I should give them more money again?

After 2 days of trying to find a solution, one UNORTHODOX solution was found: I had to delete the Blizzard Launcher.exe and then run Diablo III. This forced the game to download the Launcher.exe again, and ask for my pre-set data, and low and behold, I set my security question to my first dog's name. Answered correctly, and my Battle.net account was open FOR FREE.

So yeah, this is why I don't support DRM/Always Online games, as well as games, which are in need of a server, and doesn't have offline mode for me to enjoy forever-on, if I paid for it. One day, the server will be gone, and the game will die/be useless. Diablo II is far superior in this regard. You can mod it, you can cheat, you can play it whenever, even if Blizzard-Activision blows up and most importantly, the full game can be enjoyed OFFLINE, and no automated AI or moderators will close the game off from your usage. Bought it and can enjoy however, whenever I want it.

You really had some great thinking process here - that's what my aunts say when they are calling me for help, for people like them who are litteraly forced to use the net even for basic administrative tasks, imagine the wall of complexity they are faced with when something goes wrong, the tiniest problem that's nothing to us completely block them!

Yeah, my parents are like that too. They are living hours on Farcebook, but if they encounter the ugly side of it, they are messaging me what to do. Advert/popup says "Your phone is infected by 127 potentially malicious threats. Get these security risks fixed!" Of course it's a false advert to download unneeded antivirus/spyware. Told them to ignore it. Every week, something new. I hate FB! One idiot gets hacked or a virus/whatever and infects practically everyone else on their buddy list. T_T

And my father encountered his first griefer. Father answered a blog about potentially dangerous migrants and got the not so pretty "Shut your mouth you ***************!" He asked me why did somebody wrote this. I told them "No clue! Just pretend it didn't happen. Block/Bann and move along!" *sigh* Such fun!

The more I think about it, the less I understand how we manage to avoid most of those problems. I mean, yes, many of us just grew with it, we have a lot of experience, but it's such a JUNGLE!! With new, unforeseen dangers every week...

ThaPig

Yeah, that's probably an automated thing because people create fake accounts just to spam, so if you create an account and don't post, the system could interpret it's one of those. Curiously it has not happened to me, who created a Twitter account years ago, and stopped using it after seeing how much crap I kept getting.

Perhaps because you did use it at some point in the beginning, contrary to what happened to me here? All this is WEIRD anyway, and the problem is, their communication is even weirder!
ThaPig

Most probably both the cause of the problem and their message apologizing for it were entirely automated things that involved no human intervention.

Honestly... this is sorta normal. Youtube/google, pretty much anyone who has ever attempted to introduce automated moderation will have a LOT of false flags until they turn down the system to a reasonable level.

I agree with that, no system is perfect from the beginning. However, Twitter is certainly not a new system, so normally with years and years of experience the programs are upgraded to be better with each problem encountered, right? Don't tell me I am the VERY FIRST, or even just the tenth user to whom such a thing happened..................

Everything is fully automated and uses "machine learning" to make up the rules as it goes.  Most of these companies have no idea how their own systems work.  Even the appeals process is fully automated, so no person was involved in unlocking your account.

People think I'm crazy for not using Twitter, Discord, owning a smartphone, never using 2FA...

I spent almost 30 years of my life programming, and now I don't even want to touch a computer anymore.  I hate what this industry has becomes, and it's why I only hang out on sites like Inkbunny.

I avoid Twitter like it's a plague. Ignore Instagram despite the fact that I hear is not so bad I simply have no reason to create or use Instagram accounts. For Facebook I have no interest. Honestly sites like ink bunny and F A are probably the closest I get to dealing with social media. Oh and you too I'm on YouTube at least 30 hours a week mostly listening to audiobooks and podcast

Not knowing anything about twitter I guess new accounts not used at all for months may be locked for possibility of being part of spammer throwaway account stock just by simple rule. And it's likely easier to automatically unlock 100 accounts as owners complain than clean up the fallout from one actual spam account.
