IS THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER USERS?

https://twitter.com/TGA5000/status/1754637236451078303

it seems pretty weird...he's a "common" user (somebody not having that much fameor visibility) and yet he denounces Twitter is taking away views and users count....has this happened to you on twitter before?

I've never used Twitter myself, and I don't plan to. Sorry.

The one account that I frequent most has a viewer count that fluctuates wildly. Sometimes I'll lose up to ten followers, only to have 'em back hours later. Not like they ever unfollowed me to begin with, it's just some sort of weird UI thing.

From a more technical perspective, it's not performant for a database to show exact counts in realtime, so counts are usually handled by caches.  These caches are updated once every few hours or even after a few days, so the numbers can be sporadic or even flat-out wrong.  Also, more popular accounts are usually given cache priority, so it doesn't surprise me if a small account has more broken statistics that big ones.

I don't use Twitter, but recently YouTube changed their system so video view and like counts are updated dynamically as you're watching them.  It's common to see the numbers update from a large number to zero.  When I view YouTube in private mode, sometimes every video I watch shows a view count of zero, and no matter how many times it updates, it always shows zero.  It's all messed up and very annoying.

Hell, when I deleted my gallery on DeviantArt, they continued to show that my gallery had 200+ pictures for about 3 months.

I don't trust any of the numbers.  They're all bullshit.
