500w: Stats and things I learned

I'm sorry for writing such a long journal entry, but I didn't have time to write a short one.

When I started this account less than 2 weeks ago, I could not imagine the reception I would get for all of this work. I certainly didn't expect that in less than two weeks, I'd get 500 watchers and nearly 50k views, and I want to thank you guys for that.

I wanted to take this opportunity to look over the work I've done and the results I've had, since I learned so much over the course of so little time. I've tried to always put out a wide variety of scenes with different themes and levels of execution complexity.

By far, my most popular submissions have been images involving cubs in some capacity. Arguably my most popular image has been
, which although it does not have the greatest number of views, the favorite rate speaks for itself.

Conversely, my least popular has to be betwee
and
, both early green images which didn't perform all that well. I do want to try putting out another Blanka image at some point and see if there's a difference in reception however.

In fact most of my first posts didn't do great, such as
, and I think part of the reason is that I didn't have an audience then and newer followers aren't going through the full back catalog as much (although I'm still seeing numbers grow in general).

For the last week, I've also managed to always keep a few images in Popular section of the front page. At one point I had 11 out of the 240 pictures to myself, which makes me grateful, but also perhaps the InkBunny developers might want to limit the number of popular images per artists at once to 3 or 4.

That being said, knowing that I "can" make the front page so much and seeing what's popular among people, I also want to make sure to do stuff that pushes my understanding of learning Stable Diffusion and also to do images that try to stand out in some capacity.

To that end, I've been pushing more on AnimateDiff to create animations, which tend to do better than non animated content on average.

I've used ControlNet more, especially for complex poses like
, though I've found that it can be a challenge to work with in general. More research needed.

I've also started using the AddDetails LoRA, starting with
. This is another tool in my arsenal which gives great results, as long as it'S used in the right context.

In the short term to medium term, my goal will be to focus on the tools I currently have and try to better master them. There's a lot I can do with it, and I would love to include them better while keeping a streamlined process. Definitely a challenge, but I think there's potential with what's there.

On that note, I definitely appreciate your suggestions. Even if it takes a few days to get to it, it gives me ideas I wouldn't have come up with on my own which is great. That variety in turn helps me improve my skills. I hope you'll all stick around for the journey, there's a lot more to discover!

Ive only been watching you for about a week or so now and I can say that I do enjoy your work it looks really good. Please keep up the amazing work your doing. :D I know alot of people don't like AI art but i do and ty for what you can do and let use who enjoy it get to see it. I would love to get into doing some AI art my self but I've not found a good help string guide on how to install thing properly and where to get the models to use. I have a descent pc with a NVIDIA 3060 TI and wouldn't mind running it locally on my own pc.

Thank you for your kind words! I've just existed for less than 2 weeks but I've strives to create some cool stuff and really vary my subjects and poses and styles.

To install Stable Diffusion, I recommend this: https://stable-diffusion-art.com/install-windows/
Depending on your computer expertise, it might take a while to get comfortable with it, but once it's installed, using it won't be as challenging.

Best of luck!

ty very much for the help its very much appreciated ^_^ and im a gen Xer lol i have some knowledge on computers i even built my own lol. But this AI stuff is new so it may take me a bit to learn it.

For me the challenge was mostly setting up Python, I haven't done a lot of command line stuff that "hooks" into the system like that. Aside from that, I think AI stuff isn't as complicated as it might seem once Stable Diffusion is installed, it's mostly a matter of getting the right Checkpoints and LoRAs, and learning the terminology of what "Checkpoint" and "LoRA" means. That's one thing InkBunny is great for, you can look at other people's prompts and see how they created their images, it's a great way of learning.

Yea that where im going to end-up having trouble as well is making sure everything is installed correctly and they are working together. I know it will take me a bit of time once i get to set down and play with it and learn more on how to use it. Ty again for the help on getting me started it very much appreciated ^_^

Nice!

I blinked when I started at about the same time, and I got 100 followers too. I come back after a few days away and I come back to over 250.

I think this year is gonna get nuts with AI stuff.

Yeah there are so many developments under way, I'm really excited to try out some of the new video options. Hopefully versions of it quickly come to local systems.

Out of curiosity what sort of stuff do you like to create for yourself using this AI software?
artiedragon

I'm a very pragmatic type of person, I don't tend to create things in a vacuum unless I have further plans for it. In the past I've worked on some comic stuff, some animation stuff, some game assets, but all of those were eventually set aside because I wasn't fully satisfied with the work process involved. I'm hoping to try that again as the tools become better and more precise.

Interesting. So really you don't have a specific 'fetish', you just want your art to look the very best that it can possibly be? :)
artiedragon

I do have fetishes, but those don't tend to have as much weight when I'm creating something. I think the recent "Reptile" is a great example, I'm not necessarily into muscles, but the concept felt interesting since there's not a lot of that, or the Mouse on the bike image as well. Most of these aren't really based on fetishes, but rather a concept that intrigued me. That's more of what I seek when I make art.

I do like a lot of stuff, I like the TMNT and Digimon so they appear a bit more often, and foot fetishism, but I think as a creator, I'm too close to my work to enjoy it on the same level as when other people create a particularly clever piece from someone else. I can't speak to other artists, but I end up focusing on the technical aspect of the work that's created, to make sure it lives up to "the vision".

For what it's worth, I also really like comics and images with context, but I haven't pursued those a lot yet because I feel like they're very time consuming and I've not been happy with the results I've yielded thus far. But it's a skill I'd like to develop further.
furloverguy84

Again, that sounds interesting. :) That's cool though about having a restraint on your own fetishes and wanting to do something different, especially when it comes to artwork. As you might end up enjoying doing certain things that you didn't know you would like until you start doing them.
artiedragon
2 months, 2 weeks ago
Part of it is restraint, but I think a big part of it is me getting bored if I'm making the same thing repeatedly. Different artists will latch on to different aspects of the creative process, for me a lot of it is trying to make something interesting that I've not seen before, which is why I go after some uncommon stuff like the bike. There's still some more "traditional" images, but often those are about something else in the background like figuring out animations or a setting I haven't seen much (I have an upcoming animation with Sakura flowers).
furloverguy84
2 months, 2 weeks ago
That's fair enough. You want to challenge yourself by doing different things, rather than do the same things over and over and getting bored with it all after a while, this way things are kept fresh.
artiedragon
2 months, 2 weeks ago
Yeah, that's exactly right. And "after a while" is pretty quick for me, I'm always seeing out something new and interesting :P

It's different when I look at porn though, it's a lot of the same fetishes and what not.
furloverguy84

And naturally you want to try something to spice things up a bit to make it more noticeable. :)
artiedragon

Heheh, indeed. And I want to make more intricate things, I have some ideas for the future, whatever I'm learning here certainly won't be going to waste.
furloverguy84

That's good to hear. :) If I do have any other ideas (they don't need to be strength related all the time) I'll let you know probably.

And yeah, it is the quick path to popularity that threatens more traditional artists, something which definitely should be coded into the algo of the popular pages to not squeeze them out. AI art has some very different aspects than traditional art and should be able to exist side by side and not cramp it out and dissuade the traditional artists (because why spend hours and years practicing when things go un-noticed?)

I personally respect AI directors who rummage around, creating interesting things, different styles and themes and workflows, that is also a creative skill which cannot be overlooked, so good luck on your further endevours (and don't forget the inpaint and all that, missing limbs and all that should be weeded out and all that) ^^

I wish that the front page would customize to the user and simply not add submissions that includes words you've blocked, instead of showing a greyed X. Different users have different things they don't want to see and it feels like it would make for a good compromise for everyone involved, and also do it in an "inclusive" way.

Definitely an option, I myself think AI art should have its own catagory, like audio stuff and writings, which would naturally limit the amount of AI stuff on the popular page for all to see, but all that is up to the staff of the site (of which I am sure passionate debates are ongoing)

Like I said, I respect AI art and the work that goes into it, but it is also built on the shoulders of "real" art, which in my view should still be at the forefront. Due to the, among other things, eyes and wonkiness, I have so far yet to be thrilled by a piece of AI art, despite it looking better than simple drawings which actually do elicit a reaction from me, so I am quite biased in this hehe
artiedragon
2 months, 2 weeks ago
I guess I don't feel like there's enough AI art produced right now to warrant its own category, looking at how many pieces in the popular section are AI generated, but also I feel like my solution would solve other issues like people not wanting to see cub or scat or any other more "extreme" fetish, but in turn still allowing everything to coexist by users picking and choosing what they want for themselves. I'm a big proponent of choice, I never want to impose my preferences on others, but I still want the right for my preferences to be acknowledged, you know.
bullubullu

Well, AI art is constantly on the popular page, all the time, each day! So it is very prevalent already

And stuff that is on the block list is just filtered out without any notice, as far as I know, keeping it hidden organically.

And I agree, there should be a choice, but the website itself should also try to keep a balance, due to how much AI art divides the waters, and other sites just banning it outright, which might not be the best option, but the artists whose work is used as part of the machine should also be respected and all that, since AI art is, at its core, art theft, so that is also a consideration that should be taken into account, before the walls are built too high between the two camps!
artiedragon
2 months, 2 weeks ago
Yeah I was wrong, the front page displays my work to me regardless of keywords, but it hides all the other blocked keywords. I never noticed that before.

I know AI will remain controversial for some time, I don't know which side it'll fall on. I'm a tech guy, I tend to see AI the same way I see people learning how to do a skill by looking at someone else and absorbing that technique, it just happens a lot quicker and through digital means. But I know not everyone agrees with that perspective, and I agree that finding some middle ground where both camps can get some satisfaction is for the best.
bullubullu

Yeah, because at its core, the technology is super cool! But also scary, so there needs to be a balance^^

I definitely try to keep in touch with papers and have some form of understanding of the process, it helps to make it a bit less scary, to some degree. Ultimately AI is a tool, like anything else, but at least it's a more democratic tool than a lot of previous ones. We definitely have to ensure it remains like this.
bullubullu

I agree that it is a tool, which is proving itself to great affect, and I hope you "pay your respects" to ordinary artists and keep that legacy of hard work in your mindset or else I fear the background data will dry up over time, making AI art lifeless more than it already is!
