Earlier today, my dog Punkie was put down. She was about 15 years old, and about 14 years after we adopted her from a shelter when she had mange and was planned to be put down. Her mind had basically gone and she forgot how to eat and drink, only remembering how to walk around on legs that could barely work and would walk around constantly for hours, even in the middle of the night.
I saw it coming for months, but my mom finally made the decision when she realized that Punkie was no longer responding to her presence like she normally did.
