Ionic expectations

So for once it's only partly cloudy for a solar storm here. But not dark enough yet to see anything but the crescent moon. (I only have a bad mobile camera, so get your pics of the pretty lights elsewhere).

Here's hoping.

Fingers crossed! I went out to try to see last night, and couldn't see much more than "well, there might be a vague purple glow to the sky, but that might just be the lights from town." It has been suggested that it's easier to see if you take a picture with your cell phone instead of looking just with the naked eye so I might try that tonight.

Anyway. Hope you can see it!

Being relative far north should give better chance, but on the other hand we're barely into nautical twilight yet, and not into astronomical twilight for an hour. No stars visible...patience is indicated.

Yeah, all the really good pictures I've seen have come from fairly northerly points in the US and Canada, or in various parts of Europe. Being in the Southern US I'm more or less on the edge of things, though a local acquaintance did get some pretty good photos on her phone. It's still broad daylight here, though, so I've got a fair time to wait before I can try again as well.

And I also have to keep an eye on the ESC, see if there's any joy for Scandinavia.

I was so rooting for Croatia and I am beyond disappointed in that shitshow that MGP has become.

Hmm, the models seem to show that the activity is very low while it's dark here, but more should arrive tomorrow afternoon. Mostly as an amusement for people with instruments to detect it, I guess.

It's been cloudy here two nights in a row! I am beyond salty about it, since yesterday the Ion Storm got down to 15N and that's unheard of really! But we saw nothing but clouds and rain! Hit me up after I wake up for some aurora pics from previous storms though.

Keep an eye on this. If the BZ goes South, you got 30 about minutes until the show starts. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/real-time-solar-wind#

Well, sunrise is in less than 3 hours from now, and I need to sleep. I'll make one last check, but chances seem to be slim.

EDIT: Negative. Stars but no aurora.

Hit me up after I wake up for a photography tutorial as well. Been doing this since 1996 so should know a thing or two about it :3 Sweet dreams and good night. We will have auroral opportunities for the next nights as well, as the Sun keeps spewing out hot, fast plasma.

Okay, I'm up. We are supposed to get hit tonight as well. So find a dark spot https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=6.27&lat=5... On this light pollution map, your best camera and a tripod. Think of the composition, would be nifty if the aurora got reflected off a lake, or ocean.
