This isn't the first time I've heard the, "That wouldn't work" comment. I'm curious, why do you think it wouldn't? I thought it was a clever plan, but most that have commented say it would fail. Care to enlighten me? What am I missing that others tend to see?

A bit like the comment below. Though I have never served in the army myself (I had three discs in my lower back fractured in an accident when I was 18. Okay now but for medical grounds not acceptable to the forces in the UK) I have friends who are or were serving soldiers.
The situation above, and the one I alluded to in a previous comment (Necrophillia) occurs in wars. When on peacekeeper duties, my friends came across things that will haunt them till thier dying days. The 'officers' (Corrupted rebels) in the countries they tried to stabalise had personal 'spoils of war,' but the common 'foot soldiers' (Merc's) just queued to abuse captured civilians while murdering the males. Unless they were lucky enough to be first on the scene of an uncaptured female (Gang rape then murder usually followed) Think Bosnia, Iraq, Somalia etc.
I can't say it doesn't happen in the western world armies, but as certain scenes from the prisons in Iraq revealed, some soldiers in the American forces are just as bad.
Your comic is fur species against fur species, therefore faction-like in it's settting. The likelyhood of one 'Good' soldier, especially a new one, being able to extract an 'enemy female' from a feuding situation is slight at the best, to nigh on impossible.

I agree Toshubi, he could buy the girl, however in this case their is nobody he could go to. For the sake of honor he has no real choice but to do one thing. That's AWOL with the girl, and anyone else he can grab to save, he may even have to give his life to save them. That last part is only a maybe. He has to do something to shake others into remembering their honor if anyone else actually has any to begin with other than him.
