Poor Andy :( You could tell he had a crush on Cooper too. Cooper was an ass but also do remember what peer pressure was like at that age. In high school, most kids would have done almost anything to get on the good side of their peers and feel good inside. Especially if they themselves are self conscious and self doubting. Most bullies themselves have very low self esteem and I think that's what happened with Cooper. He bullied cause it made people praise him and thus boosted confidence in himself that he completely lacked. That and he likely was struggling with the notion of liking Andy as well and thus started to hate Andy for something neither of them could control and feelings of which Cooper didn't understand and didn't want.
