Going Naners
By Typhlosionboy
It was a beautiful tropical day in the Trip Tree Jungle region or the TTP. Anya was enjoying the beautiful sun while it was still out, it would only be a matter of time before the clouds in the distance would quickly overwhelm the sky for who knows however many hours. It was entirely possible the while region could be inundated with rain for days considering their tropical local. Even so the tall slim primate female was making her way over to a friend’s house, and she had dressed up for it as well. Donning her green short skirt and under strap shirt as well that went underneath her armpits around the sides of her waist where it buttoned up in the back almost like a bra. This would allow a certain someone by the name of Charles a possible view of her furry watermelons, but only if she was feeling coy enough for such a brave showing. Anya took a moment too look herself over in the mirror, she also used it to make sure she put in her blue bow just right for it sometimes looked like a butterfly. That was another reason she liked it, but the reason she liked Charles is he was a very kind young primate, around the same age as her.
The both of them had recently graduated high school, and although she had never officially told him, the monkey lass did propose to him that they should go on a date. She had batted her eye lashes and masterfully swayed her gleaming shiny reddish orange hair to the side as best she could encouraging him for an answer. He had agreed, and now here she was making sure to get properly dressed up for her handsome monkey man. Obviously Anya was nervous, but unlike most young adults her age she didn’t have a freak out about it as her father had taught her such things would quickly make a guy think you were crazy. Speaking of parents both Anya herself as well as Charles lived with their parents like most primate families, only the truly dysfunctional ones would separate and this was important because each mother and father until would pass on skills as well as knowledge for maintaining their current home, food recipes, history and much more. The only other time families or family members would split is if they need to build a new home to accommodate the growing troupe.
Even the males were also taught cooking and recipes in case of some unseen unfortunate events to certain members of the family male or female, and all in all their society was a very socially uplifting one as helping each other was encouraged. But none of that matter to the furry monkey female all that she cared about was going to the movies with Charles. They had agreed to see a cheesy zombie flick, and then she would meet his parents for dinner at his place after of course. Anya waved to her parents as she headed finally feeling adequately ready to go on her date. Though she wasn’t too excited for the idea of a zombie movie, it was the dinner that was going to be the date part for her since being brought over to meet another’s parents is considered very important especially during the beginning of a relationship. So the female primate cheerfully made her way over to Charles house which was a decent thirty minute walk in itself, and that was where she briefly met his parents who were saying their temporary goodbyes to Charles before the two headed out.
Anya smiled as she came up to him and gave him a hug, then kissed his furry cheek. She then blushed when she realize what she had done, but was instead surprised with a small bundle of flowers. Charles stated he had been growing them in their local garden and he hoped that she would accept them before going on the date. Anya of course said yes, but told him to put them in a vase upon the dinner table so they didn’t get ruined or lost at the movies. Charles grinned smiling softly as he felt a bit embarrassed not thinking about that idea himself, but Anya watched as he would temporarily go do that task before coming back to plant a kiss on her monkey lips. She felt him take a moment to stare into her light blue eyes blushing the moment he finally looked away before grabbing her furry hand to lead the both of them. Luckily for the both of them it wasn’t that far of a walk from where they were and in under fifteen minutes of walking through the thick jungle community they had made it.
Heading to the theater Charles held up their tickets he had apparently bought ahead of time, showing it to the clerk before asking Anya if she wanted some snacks or anything to drink. Being taught well she knew this was a sort of test and simply stated she didn’t need anything except some water so as to not ruin her appetite for later. He smiled at her before obliging in getting the both of them smaller cups for water. Heading to the sofa fountain machine he pushed on the water option before they went to go find their seats. The theater room was packed but luckily there was some openings where the two could sit together, and so they did throughout the entire length of the movie. The ending of the movie hinted at a sequel and although Anya had no real interest she had paid attention to it in case Charles wanted to talk about it.
A group of top scientist had been working on the study of an unknown virus that came from a meteorite. Though it was a smaller meteorite they had apparently missed a chunk or two and a local had picked it up, took it to their place and ended up harboring the virus in his body and for many years it stayed dormant. Years had passed as they studied the virus deeming it seemingly harmless to wildlife but they still had no idea how it would affect their kind. However such studies on their own were obviously deemed illegal and immoral, but it wasn’t until the local man who had picked up a chunk died of natural causes where things became an issue. A nearby neighbor hadn’t seen him for days, and assuming the worst went to the guys house to check up on the guy. Despite the door being unlocked and everything seemingly in order his neighbor ended up finding him on a nearby sofa chair seemingly unconscious or even dead he approached him.
As all things go he got jumped and bite, but managed to escape accidentally letting the undead man out of his house as well. The incubation rate for the unknown virus was generally several days but could be as short as a few hours based on the individuals health. Soon reports of some cannibal craze would become widespread, then it was happening in your city, and then their was no more news, no power, no running water or food. Quarantines city wide had failed military outposts were now the last bastions of major civilizations with a few outposts spread across the world doing their best to hold off the undead behind walls and traps. What few remaining scientists worked on a cure and the movie left off with them discovering the virus being tracked to the meteorite that had fallen almost a decade prior. Anya decided the movie when she reviewed it in her head wasn’t actually that cheesy with the exception of the meteorite virus causing the outbreak of undead, though she thought to herself it might be possible it just seemed a bit much. Still she smiled feeling Charles monkey hands around her back and side before they got up as the credits began rolling.
Before heading back home the two each went to the bathroom, while the female primate was in she made sure her face looked nice and that her fur was still clean looking. Once everything was set to go she finished up her duties, washed the palms of her furry monkey paws and then met Charles right outside as they began their walk home. Along the way she would ask him if he enjoyed the movie.
“What was your favorite part?” Anya inquired of her date.
“Well there was a lot, but I think the part where the zombies broke some of the military lines during the initial outbreak was pretty cool. Oh but then the part where everybody is boarding a ship to a faraway island to hide out and the military starts bombing the zombies, throwing grenades, and finally shooting their heads during their final flee was pretty cool. You could tell they realized wearing heavy armor and aiming for the heads were essential to killing a zombie.”
“Ah yes you boys and your blood, guts, and guns. Well I’m happy you enjoy it, but I’m definitely excited for dinner.” Anya said as her stomach instinctively rumbled some as if listening in to their conversation.
“Well you know those are some pretty cool things, but yes it was quite enjoyable and I’m sure my mother made something good for all of us to enjoy. Father might have chipped in too if he didn’t end up napping while I was away.” Charles said with a slight chuckle at the end.
The two paused for a moment as they took a moment to stare in one another's eyes, then Charles leaned in as Anya puckered up her lips while leaning forward some. Then the two embraced in a brief yet tender kiss. Pulling away both primates blushed as Anya once again began to follow her date back to his house to actually finally meet his hopefully endearing parents. Anya followed close as the two of them finished their wall back to his place, and now she was finally getting to see the insides of his ground tree house made of tree branches, hay, mud, and even leaves too of course for when it rains. Upon entry into Charles family home, she quickly noticed the modest decorations which included pictures of the family and other family members from various ages. There was also a few little knick knacks here and there and as Charles greeted his family they would all sit down at the kitchen table which actually was a rather large stump that had been trimmed up nicely where they ate out of finely carved wooden plates, bowls, and it seemed only the utensils were actually made from metal. This of course wouldn’t bother Anya one bit as she was mostly focused anyways on the warm look their interior gave off especially with the brick and mortar fireplace that looked homemade.
Just then Charles mom got up as the oven dinged and she started speaking, “Well it’s so good to finally meet your date Charles. Why don’t you have her tell us a bit about herself over some hot veggie casserole, and for desert I also made and cooled us some whipped banana pie with crunchy roasted ants drizzled with a bit of chocolate.”
“Sounds pretty good mother,” he stated turning his head towards Anya smiling at her to indicate she should say something.
“Oh yes, well as you know me and your son Charles share some classes together, including home education in regards to cooking, cleaning, learning how to take care of the house as those are important skills when in the family unit or even when one is by themselves for whatever period of time.”
There was a small pause as everyone took a bite or two and started to enjoy the casserole. It was then that Charles' father spoke next to the female primate. “So if I recall your name is Anya right? “
“Yes it is sir.” Anya replied hastily but respectfully.
“Good, then perhaps you could come over in a couple weeks and help cook at our bar-be-cue implants on having. Obviously you’ll get to rest a bit later and we’ll make sure you have some food. What do you say to that? It’ll be a great way to introduce you to some of our other family members and taste some of your cooking.”
Anya blushed a little as she was expecting more rigorous questioning, but she realized they were putting a lot of responsibility on her and she knew if she did well it would bode well for being accepted into the family if she ever planned to hey that far with Charles. Nodding her head the female primate replied, “Yes, of course it would be great to meet more of the family and practice my cooking some more. I’ll admit my parents still do most of our cooking, but me and my brother occasionally whip something up from time to time.”
The father nodded as he added one final comment, “Good, it’ll be a great practice experience for sure then. Now let’s truly dig in while the foods still hot.”
And so everyone enjoyed themselves some veggie casserole, and of course nobody passed up on desert either. Charles and Anya told them how the movie went, as well as their favorites parts with his mom scoffing at the ridiculousness of people coming back to life, while his dad thought it was an interesting yet also equally terrifying prospect if science is ever able to do such a thing. All in all it was a good date for Anya and she smirked as a firm kiss was planted on her lips from Charles, of course when his parents weren’t watching. The walk home she blushed at the thought of the kiss, her cheeks turning a flushed red as she visualized his soft lips once again pressing against hers for the brief moment before he pulled away. That night she went home, talked to her parents about the date, and had a wonderful dream later during the night. Her current goal now was to impress and get Charles parents to accept her, for really enjoyed being with Charles, and so those were her final thoughts before her head hit the pillow and she slept peacefully throughout the night for tomorrow was a new day.
