Tangelo's story starts with the retirement of the Plunderstrong Mistbeard and his Plunderling wife Keelhaul from their life of privateering. Keelhaul discovered that citrus fruits prevented the onset of scurvy, so they started a very profitable citrus orchard on their private island.

One day, while harvesting their bounty, they heard splashing from a nearby freshwater stream to find a small orange Drench hatchling playing and swimming in it. But this one was different. Rather than being a violent creature born of an angry and unforgiving sea, she was born of the serenity of the orchard island. The couple adopted her as their own and named her Tangelo, after their popular cross-pollination of oranges and tangerines.

When she came of age, Tangelo took on the Plunderfolk tradition of following where their feet took them and find where they fit in Plunderfolk society. Taking up her father's old harpoon as a walking stick (and means of self defense), she went her own way, planting heirloom seeds from the farm wherever she went.
The Plunderfolk adore her, despite being a Drench, due to the reputation of her illustrious adopted parents, both in their pirating careers as well as the decreased cases of scurvy among Plunderfolk crews.

When she comes to a Plunderfolk settlement, she is welcomed with open arms.
In her adventures, she's made many friends, such as being honored to dance with the fauns of the densely forested islands, even being gifted a faun pan flute for bringing them the tasty fruit her family is known for.

The Drench distrust her, as she reeks of the solid skins that invade their territories with their wooden floating monstrosities, but she has made fast friends with the islander twins, Koral and Maru, who look forward to her visits so they can hear the stories of her many adventures.

She's even ventured into the human lands on expeditions with Tuff and Goyle, discovering treasures of ancient civilizations and also bringing back human trinkets.

She has two daughters, Clementine and Valencia, fathered by the philandering ladies man, Captain Ash, but she and the captain are on good terms and he cares deeply for his girls. Clementine and Valencia sometimes accompany their mother on her adventures, but prefer to stay at the orchard and help Nee-Nee and Pap-Pap with their harvests.

It's said if you ever want to find Tangelo, just follow the orange trees.
