As Gaeb and Robyn were settling in for the night, they took some time to look up at the night sky together, admiring the stars and how beautiful the view was. In spite of knowing each other for a short amount of time, they seemed to have developed a strong friendship, enjoying each other's company and sharing so much about each other already. There was however one thing Robyn wondered if she could share with Gaeb now that they've become friends, to see if she can trust him with her deepest secret. She asked Gaeb if he could stay up and wait for her to fall asleep as she had something to show him and this was the only way. Confused by this request but somewhat curious, Gaeb accepted her request, claiming he would keep watch at the cave entrance. Some time passed as Gaeb looked out into the clearing, admiring the way the light of the moon bathed the grassy valley. He asked her if she agreed with him that the valley was beautiful in the night light, testing to see if she was asleep. When he heard no response, he turned to see Robyn seemed to be fast asleep. He smiled, admiring how adorable she looked when tuckered out and bundled up in her sleeping bag. But to his shock, Robyn's body began to emit a strange light. Gaeb stood in silence, mouth agape, barely able to believe what he was seeing, this mystery that Robyn wanted to share with him after she fell asleep. The light began to shift and turn, taking the form of what seemed to be a canine with a thick bushy tail and thick fur surrounding it's chest around to it's head and cheeks. Then Gaeb's eyes shot open as he fell back at the sight of the light transform completely into a wolf. The wolf's eyes appeared to be closed as it stood on all fours, before turning over to Gaeb to look at him. The wolf's eyes were the same color as Robyn's, and it stood stoic and nervous of what Gaeb thought of it. As Gaeb gathered the courage to slowly get back on his feet, he inspected the wolf from a distance, noticing how familiar it looked. He then had a shocking realization that this was the same wolf that rescued him in the forest. Hesitantly, he spoke to the wolf with a slightly quivering tone. "Robyn, is that you?" He asked her. Sensing how nervous he was but wanting to reassure him, she nodded with a worried look on her face afraid of how Gaeb would react knowing the truth. Gaeb heard tall tales of an ancient people capable of shapeshifting into wolves by night, but never thought they could be real, let alone that he could end up being friends with such a person. The two stared at each other in silence for a brief moment in time, with nothing but the ambience of the forest sounding into the cave. Robyn looked away, afraid that Gaeb wouldn't accept her as she was. But though Gaeb was still shaken up by this revelation, he slowly walked over to her. Slowly, he laid a hand on her head, petting her to see if the wolf was truly friendly. Normally Gaeb would be mental to put his trust in a wild wolf, but seeing as how this was the same one that saved his life on top of acting playfully with him upon his rescue, the least he could do was try to thank her for it. He kneeled down to Robyn and asked her if she was truly that same wolf that saved him. With a small smile, she nodded, putting Gaeb's worries at ease. Gaeb thought he was dreaming, or perhaps that he was going insane, still trying to wrap his head around this turn of events. But perhaps it didn't seem like a bad situation to be in. This was after all the same wolf who saved him, and knowing that Robyn was willing to trust him with a secret like this shows how she really thinks of him as a good friend. He thanked her again for saving him, and pet her as he did during their first meeting. Robyn's face lit up with joy, relieved that Gaeb didn't run away in fear. Her tail shook and she gave him a friendly nuzzle on the cheek, to which he chuckled with his previous fear slowly subsiding. The two would continue to communicate with each other before truly resting for the night, but Gaeb couldn't help but still feel bewildered by the oddness of his predicament. He was friends with a girl who had the power to transform into a wolf. As they drifted off to sleep, he wondered how this would effect their friendship going forward, hoping for the best in spite of the radical differences between her world with his own.
Okay, a lovely story so far, but am I the only one who sees a huge missed opportunity in this not becoming NSFW? :D
