A collab?

It would be fun to work together ^w^ long time fan, I just felt the urge to speak up. If you don't have an interest in such things I apologize!~<3

If I had time, I would. I'm pretty busy with work =/

Honest question: How exactly would that work? You generate something and they fix the errors? You both decide on prompt words? I don't see how much "collaboration" can actually happen here between these mediums.

I don't use ai prompts, I don't know hiw that works.
I just up load an image to an ai enhancer and it gives back what it does.

It would have been up for discussion but I don't want to cause them more trouble then its worth ^w^

I would have been interested in either helping with backgrounds or creating supplemental pieces to match what their going for. Even a version in my "style" if there was such a thing for my medium x3  I was excited at the idea of helping or adding to the magic, I have zero interest in taking up anyone's time to fix anything I make.

Ah ha! Someone else who uses AI for backgrounds!

I'm not a dang landscape artist, I draw characters. AI saved me like 15 years of learning how to draw backgrounds. Thanks, AI!

Well actually, I still draw the bg. I always have. I use ai as tool in some cases to help speed up the process. I still had to make the bg by hand. I don't think people understand this, so i might just stop using it altogether.

That's... That's a really weird reason to wanna stop doing it? Because people... don't... understand your usage of it?

Real honest to god question here, did you think my comment was being sarcastic or something? I'm genuinely actually confused by your response and I have no idea why you came back with like... correcting me adamantly and saying that since I (and other people) don't "get your use of it" you might stop using it.

I want to exclaim that I was being genuine, I really do think AI is a nice tool for helping artists speed up their art process, especially in the case of backgrounds.

Oh no lol
It has nothing to do with your response.
It's just that I'm feeling anxious about how some people are reacting to it, suggesting keywords as if I generated my drawings through ai prompts and such , which I haven't the slightest idea on how all that stuff works. I just draw a quick bg and an ai enhances it.. somewhat.

Ohhhhh okay, sorry I misunderstood and felt like I'd stepped on ya toes

I will say, I am in full support. I'm 35 so I went through the art age of people saying tablets were cheating, people said Cintiq tablets with screens were cheating, people said content-aware fill/scale was cheating, people even used to tell me to my face that I was a cheater for using Layer Styles to put outlines on my pics that I would later touch up so I could bypass like 90% of the inking process

So to me, AI is just another tool in the Photoshop tool bucket that I use to make what's normally several hours of work into just a few minutes of typing some prompts and finding a good-enough background for my pic!

People seem to think it's so black and white that it's basically "You either don't use AI at all, or we assume you use AI to draw 100% of the picture" and there's no in between

Omg.. its like you live in my head
Thats exactly it. I couldn't have said it better myself. I started experimenting with ai innocently testing to see if it would help me speed up the bg stage (which I don't charge for to begin with)
I suddenly become paranoid because I learned IB has strick rules I must follow when using ai (if at all) and also dealing with some negative responses on the matter (not many, mind you)
Since all of this is new, I get easily stressed over it. The last thing I want is to lose my job here which I worked so hard to maintain.
I support ai as a tool. Artists use all sorts of tools, ranging from 3d generated bgs from blender, to 3d models, to flat out just posting real photos as backdrops, or even photoshop or procreate.
I'm glad to know there's another artist here who thinks similarly. As a matter of fact, it's just been artists who've had negative reactions towards me (so far lol)

What on earth is Layer Styles lol?
You got me curious Xd

Layer Styles is a Photoshop feature that allows you to do some simple things like Bevel/Emboss, Drop Shadow, etc.

One of the Layer Styles is called "Outer Glow" which puts a blurry glow effect around a layer, and if you tighten it up and make the opacity high enough it can be a solid black line, and you can use that to do a preliminary ink around an object (like say, an arm) and then use your eraser and brush to go in and draw the fine details. It helped me skip like 90%, literally, of the inking process.

Nowadays I just don't ink anymore. My sketches are clean enough I don't need to haha.

But yeah, a lot of things like that used to save me a lot of time. Hell, I still use Gaussian Blur like 50+ times per picture because it's a lot easier than swapping to a soft brush and doing it manually haha

Oh hey, AI BG. I know folks would get really mad/fussy about this sorta thing, but it really just speeds up the art process (especially for Character Illustrators who don't like to do BGs). Gonna be real tho, both the Pre-AI and Post-AI versions of this look pretty neat.

Specially since I don't charge for bgs :l
I'm still experimenting with it. But one thing is certain.. it saves me up a bit of time for sure.

How much time did it actually save really? It looks like most elements that were generated were drawn over/covered later in the process anyway. The final piece came out great tho!

You'd be surprised. It does save "some time"
It sorta refines it. Though sometimes, it just fucks it up lol. I don't always use it.
