A comic project that I abandoned. It was going to be called "Maŝinoj Ne Havas Sentojn". It would be about a group of four friends who are living in an underground shelter, constructed generations ago, but, as the surface became inhabitable again, everyone began to leave the shelter, leaving the four friends alone there as the last denizens. The group had a split opinion about whether they should or not go up. One of them, the protagonist, didn't want to go to surface because he hated to deal with crowds and liked the solitude of being in the shelter. Another character also didn't want to leave soon, because he wanted to bring with himself to surface as much technology as he could salvage. The other two characters, a celibate doctor and a cheerful cook, wanted badly to go to surface.
One of them, while looking for technology to salvage, ended up causing a massive leak at the very bottom of the shelter. He dies by drowning. The other three take notice of the leak and rising water tide. But the friend who does not want to deal with crowds is determined to fix the leak. The other two try to convince him, but he is adamant. The full story would have 100 pages, 10 for each section of the story, and each of the first seven segments would be about a failed attempt at fixing the leak.
Finally, in the last three segments, one of the friends convinces their stubborn buddy to leave when he is about to drown as well. The soul of the dead friend would help them to escape in time. And then, the stubborn friend, with his connection to his "lair" severed, would have to relearn to live among society... and turns out it's not as bad as he thinks. He just has to take things slowly, with help of his friends.
The reason I cancelled this is because I don't think I can keep the quality of the work as high as it is in this page. This story would need a lot of detail. And that's just something I never did. It's too much for me to work on something so difficult to deliver. I'm more likely to present this as a text story.
