In the Atlantic is an uncharted trench so deep, it's deepest spot has only the thinnest layer of the Earth's crust between it and the planet's mantle.
From the darkness of this trench, a Drench hatchling was spit forth. Like the pit he came from, he was so dark that he did not have the natural opacity of his bretheren, causing him to be shunned by his fellow Drench.
Alone, he made his way across the ocean until he made it to the shore of Denmark, where a group of young metal heads came upon him. Impressed by the range of high pitch screeches and low guttural growls of his threat display, the youths shown the young creature that they meant no harm and took him in to teach him human ways and began the metal band Gracious Destiny, with the Drench as the lead singer, now calling himself Emperor Obsidian.
Passing himself off as a little person with extreme body modification, the band became popular and got signed up with a major label, touring the entire globe during the 80's and 90's until they broke up over artistic differences.
Obsidian started his own self titled band, making concept albums telling stories of the macabre through song. Eventually he retired in a fancy well-off suburb of Dallas, TX with his human wife, the locals just seeing him as a funny little guy who doesn't go out in public out of costume and never breaks character.
He occasionally tours and releases the occasional album, but mostly enjoys his fortune and his life among the humans.
The only humans that know his true nature are his wife, his former and current band mates, his doctor, and his talent manager.
He also has connections with a few Plunderfolk in the Caribbean who enjoy his "scary noise shows" he performs when he visits The Big Anchor, though the Drench, save for Tangelo, Koral, and Maru, still want nothing to do with him.
