I consider there to be a handful of different timelines in my gallery. This comic shows off three of them, showing when Simba gradually, immediately and didn't accept an equine tail. All of which, the journey varies.
I certainly love when Nala is involved! She looks more into it and even more mischievous then Simba, seems to handle things better too. Though I don't remember Simba getting a turtle shell or a skunk tail, or Nala getting a spotty something tail. Maybe it's part of stories that haven't quite been shown fully yet? *ponders*

I don't blame you for not recognizing the turtle shell. That came from a story my friend commissioned me to write. There is art of it but not on my profile. :P
The skunk tail is part of a story that I have in my head but need to wait until I have the money to commission it. Quick nutshell, if he's grounded with a donkey tail, he might as well try to change it.
As for Nala's snep-spotted horse tail, that was more of a last-minute edition to have some fun with her design

I see! At first I thought the turtle shell was a bit of a turtle/simba and the hare/nala story reference. Well, Simba certainly seems to like the skunk tail more! Though, not sure everyone else will when/if it takes over and turns him into a full little stinker. ^^ Which, I do think I enjoy the full transformations a bit more than partials, *but that's just me* but is certainly fun to see the process of it happening/overtaking being fairly slow or story driven.
It makes me wonder if there is a force of equality at work, since Rafiki was all about keeping balance. Something like, when Simba or Nala turns into a different animal, then another somewhere else becomes a lion. Sort of like with the Simba - Bambi, and Nala - Faline swap. So all these things happening to Simba and Nala, are affecting someone somewhere else.

Truth be told, unless both characters are linked in the narrative, like Simba and Bambi swapping species because they were both in the wrong place at the right time, I'm not a fan of "just because someone transformed automatically means someone somewhere off screen must be transformed too". It creates a lot of loose threads and makes the narrative feel clunky. I prefer transformations being self-contained unless explicitly setup otherwise, if that makes sense
The idea of someone trying to restore balance from all these transformations does sound interesting, though it's not exactly an angle I'd try to push for
