Heer Hauptmann Messler with his Mauser Pocket Pistol at the ready. Messler is a character I've been meaning to draw for a long time. He plays a fairly large supporting role in the middle part of Spitzohr's story, but this the first time I've drawn it! He's the ranking Heer officer in an occupied Greek town who finds himself faced with partisan activity.
His efforts to both quell the resistance and maintain stable, peaceful Greek-German relations with the townspeople are hindered by the fact the partisans are backed by Allied commandos who want to sabotage the radar outpost Messler is in charge of. A decent enough fellow, Messler does his best to keep the SS out of things, fearful that the SS will terrorize and torture the locals.
Unlike Spitzohr, he has won the Iron Cross, earned when he was a lieutenant in the early days of the war, when he led a charge against a French machine gun nest.
