Traditionally colored concept art for 2 main characters of a future animated short series of mine, no title as of yet and I'm still working on the pitch bible for it and character sheets. Afterglow's name is Imee because obviously I can't call her by the previous name in a general ratings project to a studio or a network, the human girl is Amy. And Imee is a goo girl animated by the heart core object (and shown in greater relief to the side) inside her that brings water to life.

I really hate a certain variety of digital art I see around sometimes, especially that lifeless look where all the lines are very neat yet the artist seems to have no grasp on art theory beyond making the colors bright and a clean look. And people are amazed by this and start declaring it superior to other looks. You see it a lot in anime and things, and it looks like every other one out there. Hell, I don't even see watercolor manga covers anymore. I was pleasantly surprised to see the MLP 3rd issue used watercolors on a preview page.

I think people forgot about the idea of texture or not controlling your tools perfectly. I see Paint Tool SAI Stabilizer and Illustrator lines far too much. In my opinion, it's missing a lot of line quality that you get by not being able to undo that line you just drew but having to fatten it instead.

So, yes, in this piece you can see everything from individual brush strokes to the watercolor pencil imperfectly blended with water, the chalky edges of the marker soaking into the paper, and the white oily acrylic marker and the shapes of the ink outline. I like that about traditional media. I can look at them and understand how they are done. Digital media leaves a certain footprint for the programs you use too, but only traditional media will your actual fingerprint be a part of the art as you pull, smudge and blend with your fingers and literally feel your image as you make it.

While I love your use of color as usual - those are really nice choices for those characters! - I can't tell if Imee is supposed to be tranluscent or not from the illo.  Is she?
