yeah. watching that episode again, even though it wasn't explicitly explained, i got the impression that everyone was in cahoots against the cmc, acting needlessly harsh and ostracizing them in order to teach them a lesson--just like everyone did to RD in The Mysterious Mare Do Well and to Sweetie Belle in Sisterhooves Social. that's apparently the way you teach children morals according to mlpfim, by showing them that the world ends every time they do something vaguely silly. either that or all their characters are super volatile in canon and the reason people think characters in this comic are ooc is because i don't portray them as extreme enough! :P needs more troll morals, i guess.

The way the characters react in the show is too different for me, yet I like the show, because of the characters in general. The characters are good. Sisterhooves Social? I personally saw nothing wrong with that episode and Sweetie had every right to hate Rarity because of how she acted, even when she apologized. It wasn't cruel planning or anything, it was Rarity's way of saying how sorry she was by going through the competition.

i guess that's true. and i don't deny it was sweet of rarity to do. i think my observation about the tendency to rely solely on group dynamics among stereotypes remains valid, though. it may not be a "bad" thing since it's a children's show, but i do think they mess it up sometimes, some times more than others.

the main thing is that you actually did your homework on the discussion. I've noted this in stream that Big Mac is my fave pony, so seeing him act like a normal older brother towards sisters and their plights is a nice character setup for him.

In a way he kinda forgave him but I have my doubts he'll ever look at the dragon the same way again after this. "Overreacted"? Sorry, but was what happened in-universe different from what we saw on the page? I said I had issues with non-consensual stuff, and I meant it, but this is having your cake and eating it too at the very worst. "Easily Forgiven" doesn't begin to describe what happened here, and actually shaming Mac for a perfectly natural reaction is that little step too far in shattering suspension of disbelief (he would have overstepped the line if he'd actually physically hurt Spike, but that didn't happen).
No. By his reaction, he did NOT deserve to be put down like this. Apple Bloom has been established as having a crush on Spike; why would Applejack do this 180 based solely on her sister's assertions, considering AB might very well be trying to make excuses for Spike? This is letting Spike off the hook way too easily. Heat of the moment or not, indecisive partner or not, what Spike did to AB was still a form of sexual assault, and this went too far too fast. One more page might have made all the difference here.
This comic managed to dodge the full-blown rape bullet, but the hopes I had for the resolution are being stripped away one by one. Here's hoping against hope that Twilight and Fluttershy will set him straight, at least, because by the reactions so far, he might very well conclude that it basically wasn't his fault.

Are you like reading a different comic then I am? Because you seem to have missed tons of key moments in this one... Where did you see a full blown rape... ? AB consented to it , she just got scared around the end. I don't think any law calls a rape, getting scared in the middle because the other part had too big of a tool and knot. He did not "assult" anything... Don't get me wrong, I am not a big fan of doing something to the partner that they don"t like during sex, but laws don't cover how exactly you have sex. They only cover if they agreed to it at the start.. As long as you don't physically harm the other partner, which spike obviously didn't. And if you call some physical pain down there during sex the first time, "and assult", then anybody that takes the virginity of a young partner, could and would be sued.. He did not hit her or anything like that. Let's not get that extreme in calling everything little dissagreement and/or discomfort during sex a freakin "full blown rape". They are young and unexperienced (also one is in heat and the other consumed by sex greed, which if you think about it ... is another way of describing being in heat, why can't males be in heat as well .. not just the usual male being horny, I call discrimination!!!). If they had gotten together they would have worked out how, to avoid hurting each other while having sex.

It might not be legally rape (and I never said it was; nothing that happened in this comic qualifies as such, and I can't for the life of me tell where you think I said so, because I never did), but it does qualify as sexual assault; you're doing something the other partner doesn't want you to do. My complaint is less what AB is doing, because that might be explained away by her feelings, but that AJ does an immediate 180 upon hearing it, and that Mac is being put in the wrong here when he clearly isn't.

who cares if you call it rape? she forgave him and didn't press charges. she also convinced her family it wasn't rape. she's also not psychologically or physically damaged. if the act had none of the negative consequences of rape, there's no point in guarding against it by stuffing it under the same umbrella. given how most people and the law (at least in most US states) disagree with you, i'd say you're overreacting just like Big Mac and Applejack did at first. you would have let Spike get kicked in the face and suffer major head trauma, which is a response way out of proportion to the crime and the victim's reaction, a response that would have done way more harm than the crime caused.

I'd agree with Ospero that the character reactions aren't realistic, but we could blame that on the comic's quick pace in the last few pages (understandable, given the struggles between page prices and trying to tell a story without any detours). Telling Ospero that they're someone who could "benefit from the points this comic is trying to make" (even though I'm not very sure which those are at the moment) seems awfully close to attacking them personally.
I've read a few of these pages I've seen on IB's front page, and read through many comments, and I'd never seen you reply in this fashion to a commenter, even if they were disagreeing with the very subjective matter you're touching in this comic. It was a bit surprising, actually. )=

the experiment of this comic is to see how magical friendship mares react when put into a situation that real-life human girls would have trouble dealing with. it's supposed to represent the ideal outcome of the situation just like fim the show represents every episode with morals. the moral here is the virtues of forgiveness and how punishing mistakes does further harm instead of any good. if you took out the sex and cheating parts and threw that moral into an episode of the show with an appropriate plot, everyone would agree immediately! i personally don't see how it's any different with adult subject matter.
if someone does real harm like murdering or actually raping or stealing, then that's cause for punishment. but spike did no more than temporary emotional damage, and he's already repenting, so what would be the point of punishment? this comic stresses how having a knee-jerk reaction to the mention of the word "rape" and having that reaction before knowing all the facts, especially the feelings of the victim, is harmful.
we tend to think that, as adults, everything we have emotional troubles with automatically justifies us getting angry over it. but we feel just as angry when someone takes our toy in preschool, solves a math problem before us in grade school, makes fun of us in front of our friends in middle school, gets to our crush before us in high school, etc. and those things are, obviously, not worth getting that upset over. the same virtues we could accept as children still apply now that we're adults; it's only the situations which are more complicated, making it harder to apply those virtues.
if you want to go ostracize and/or beat your boy/girlfriend for sleeping around and arguably taking advantage of someone irl, be my guest. that's your business. you're the only one that knows whether punishment is worth it or not. in the meantime, punishment would only lead to a bad end in this comic, so please just enjoy what's happening. it's going to become fappable again soon.
