I spent the last two days on this. This is the background I'll be using for a number of panels in the upcoming comic page. I'm not sure why I got so carried away with putting this much detail in, most of it will be covered by Chucky and his friends in the foreground. I wanted to establish that they were in the main campus square. There are 13 individual character 'apparitions' that I drew freehand with a paintbrush tool. There probably should be 5 times as many, but I'm SO not putting that much time into this. Anyway, the two large buildings are dorm complexes.

So I figured I'd upload this by itself, otherwise you'll never see it.

A nicely done background. Yeah it always feels like such a waste when you put so much into a background only to have over half of it covered up by the main event.

It was just that, the way the original drawings looked, it looked like there should be a significant background behind them. Oh well, good practice.

It looks like a nice campus to live and study at.  So many nowadays are nothing but concrete, glass, and steel.

A lot of small New England campuses are like this. Brick colonial style buildings with grass and trees, of course you do fight the elements while going from class to class in the winter.

That is unfortunately the only way to make it FEEL real. Draw as much as you can then put things on layers as you need. It gets covered (wasted) but you know it's right and so does the viewer. :D
This is exceptional btw. How big is the actual piece?

Thanks dude, yeah that's kinda how I felt about it. The JPG image is 1200 x 500 pixels, but the actual photoshop file is about twice that size with a 300 dpi resolution. And even that is only the background to one panel of a page.

Wow!
Also I just noticed that that covered door off to the left looks a bit M. C. Escher-esk because you forgot to put the support pole all the way down on the side closest to the viewer. :D
Cool effect, makes the campus even more interesting, but I don't think that's the look / feel you were going for. :D

I think I goofed on shading the steps actually. I drew the supports way before doing the steps. Oh well, I'm not going back and fixing it now.

It's ok. Like I said it makes it feel special..odd..in a good way.
Maybe it's an affiliate of Miskatonic University? :D
