The Gravity of One's Actions
"Lil' Tenny" may not be so little anymore. He's growing up, and with this transition comes questions. But perhaps not quite the same questions a pre-splice child would have. As a post-splice boy, his build is going to be a bit different than if he'd been born in the past, but the important thing is that he has friends to support him!
G-... Gren don't tease him that's terrible. <3

Boys get wider hips now too?

Why?  They can't give birth.

Or can they?

There are a lot of aspects of post-splice humans that are very medically different, and each has a real purpose for existing. The reasons why are long and complicated, but it can be summed up in the idea that sexual dimorphism just isn't useful to PS humans as a species. Also, the hip area in general is full of a lot of different systems that all have to squeeze into the same space, and there are actually medical complications that can arise due to not having enough space or padding there. To say nothing of the fact that their inbuilt mechanisms for changing sexes (with some medical intervention) generally would want the least amount of physical change in order to cause the least amount of trouble.

Post-Splice people have built-in mechanisms for changing their physical sex? Could you explain how the people managed to get that to work, and what the reasoning was, please?

They themselves aren't completely sure about this and a number of their own features. The decisions that were made as to forming their species as well as the circumstances surrounding it are shrouded in mystery, and many of the details were lost to time.

is this all out of your own imagination or this all based on something else? if the latter then could you provide a source?

This is all based completely on my original fiction furry sci-fi adventure novel, Partners! I just draw supplementary pictures for it sometimes.

What causes a change in the sex of a PSH in your universe? Is it similar to how in some species of fish, if there are not enough of one sex to provide a healthy population, that some change in order to provide an adequate balance? What age does/can this happen, and what happens physically... if you care to discuss it. This just screams at the biologist in me to try and find out.

It's basically a very tiny gland for which the only purpose is exactly this. With a very very simple surgery, a small, precise incision can be made which causes it to heal over in the opposite measure and then signals the rest of the body to begin a process not unlike a kind of puberty, introducing new configurations to all manner of bodily systems. Post-Splice Humans' regenerative healing abilities come into play greatly during this process, allowing the body to discard material it no longer needs and generate parts that it has to build. The process takes roughly one to two months in total, at which point the body is fully changed and able to do anything that particular sex is capable of.

The gland itself is very discriminating, and seems to be able to detect the difference between a precise incision and an injury to its general area. It also serves no other function that they've been able to detect. Given than this is the case, conventional wisdom is that this part of their anatomy was an engineered one; and though the purpose is somewhat mysterious, their major problems with maintaining a large population have made it occasionally very useful to them.

There are rare cases of the gland featuring aberrations that cause individuals to be born with or develop aspects of both sexes. However, given that these never seem to be detrimental to the person's health, sex/gender are so socially unimportant to the bisexual, egalitarian PSHs, and their psychology pushes inclusivity toward difference, this is never described problematically and therefore isn't something anyone leaps to 'fix.'

Neat~ All the more reason to build the trans-dimensional portal to somehow get there.

Also probably very handy if you get any folks that manage to have a strong gender identity not conforming to their birth sex. (I think this would less common in a society without our rigid gender roles, but I'm not 100% confident in saying it would never, ever occur, given my own experiences and those of other trans folks I know.)

These two look adorable as tweens, Gren especially so.  Please consider drawing more of them this way. :)

Not sure I'd like Nori-grade hips. A feminine figure, most definitely, but I've seen characters bear hips wide enough to demolish walls with a side step.

Haha, well it varies greatly depending on your genetics. Other characters from this series display a perfectly normal range of hippage. Just, Aren may be destined for wider heeps.
