Artist thoughts

I swear I can look at anyone else's art all day and see glaring anatomy flaws, then not give a darn about it and love the pic. But if it's my own work I just can't let it go and enjoy posting it, drives me nuts >..< Feeling sick at the moment and a bit hazy, so I guess I feel more compelled to share my thoughts. Been bouncing around in there for a while and I figure others probably feel that way too, sooo... sharing time I guess x3

I have the same feeling. An artist is his own worst critic ^^

I agree so much. We forever see everything that we do wrong, things we would forgive in others, but can't forgive in ourselves.

I think he's probably referring to how common it is for artists to be unsatisfied with their own work, especially as they build up more skill. Because when you're a beginner, you don't have enough experience to gauge your own work and you might think you're awesome! But as you gain more and more skill, you also develop the ability to judge your own work more accurately according to your own tastes and what's important for you.

I made a picture about this a while back:

It's known as the dunning-kruger effect:

Ah, sounds about right x3 I do miss the old days when I could be happy with less, folks seemed happy enough with it too, heh.

Nope he's telling the truth.
You are an artist if every time you see flaws in your
work cause you want to improve everything.
I do..and I have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGG
way to go to being even good. :)

I have the same feeling. I think most artists do.

Though lately, I've had less of a hard time just looking at my picture, picking the parts I don't like, and just, throwing the eraser over big parts, and retrying until I like it *enough*. Erasing large parts that *I* feel suck, even if others don't. Even if I've already refined the lineart. It helps me. Ether that or I eventually give up and let the picture rest for a long time. xP

You are your own worst critic. But that's how you improve.

Personally I want others to criticize my art. Just telling others "looks hot" doesn't give the artist something to work from. Then again sometimes you get those jerks who block ANYONE who says anything remotely close to criticism.
