DUMP... lings

How would you define a dumpling?
A) Ball of sweet dough that is boiled and served in soup
B) Meat filling wrapped in dough, usually steamed but can be fried or cooked in soup

I've eaten many dumplings (both homemade and store bought) in my life, and they've always been balls of semi-sweet dough served in soup.

I've never seen anything called a dumpling that had meat inside, but the soup they are served in often contains small bits of meat.
