AI Art

I've seen and read through a ton of journals in the last few days. Most opinions range from "it's bad" to "it's horrible". So here's my two cents about AI Art.

First of all i think the current state of AI is nowhere near "input a description, get a nice image back". All art i've seen being created with AI as the executing tool are using very carefully designed parameters and prompts. Getting the weights right on prompts is currently a lot of work, which also requires a certain skill and a lot of patience. Disregarding that as "not art at all" seems very wrong to me.

Ofc, over the years, AI will become better and better at interpreting what we ask of it, but that is quite a long journey. keep in mind that the basic technology they work with (neural networks) have been around for a very long time. Until then, there need to be established guidelines.

In the long run i think of AI as a tool for non-artists (such as me) to contribute their ideas and creativity to this community. I also see a lot of potential in using generated images to give an artist references for OCs or scenes that are otherwise hard to communicate.

Another point is that banning it is just not feasible. AI develops relatively fast, so it's already hard to distinguish between traditional and generated art. That's why i think requiring everyone to tag their art is an important step toward integrating generated art into a platform that is open to all art forms.
I see especially Inkbunny as a very welcoming and open minded community, so i think we all should be open to progress. I'm definitely looking forward to some mind-to-image generator to share the weird things floating in my head that i think would be worth looking at. AI has the potential to get to this point, but right now it just isn't there yet.

These thoughts are a bit unsorted, but i hope that you'll understand my points. I'm always open to discussion, just please don't think less of me just because i'm an uncreative IT dude toying around with new technologies ^^'

I agree, AI can be used to help artists with references since sometimes it's impossible to find the exact ones for what you're trying to draw, plus it can be used by non artists to share content and even by beginners who are still learning the basics and could use AI to help them improve.

The only fear I have is that of it impacting people are do art for a living since that could be a problem to many but I do believe that people will find creative ways of adapting well just like the music industry has done it in the past.
