Leaktober has hit a snag...

by
It would appear that my PC is, same as last year SOMEHOW, experiencing severe technical difficulties. The PC is showing symptoms of the same aberrant issue that led to the total corruption of its internal SSD. Namely, my entire PC is seizing up to the point of total inability to perform any action, requiring a hard reboot, completely at random.

Thanks to some kind donations, I was able to acquire a new drive that is sizable enough to serve as a backup data storage. However, until this new drive arrives to store my art data, I have no choice but to protect my art data from potential corruption by disconnecting the drive that it is stored on from my PC. As a consequence of this, I will be unable to work on any art pieces until the new drive arrives. I will be missing several Leaktober entries in the next few days, but I pledge to attempt to complete them when I am able.

quite alarming that a Windows 10 comp would have problems like this :/

i wonder if Windows Update has anything to do with it

It is a m.2 ssd or normal ssd? Ive experiences this with m.2 ssds, when they get too hot. Are there any "hot" components close to the disk e.g. the gpu?

It is an M.2, yes. And I don't believe I've ever had any issues with overheating on this device. The hottest device on the rig is the CPU, which seems comfortable at around 150f

150f shouldnt be a problem. For me it was the close gpu that kept the ssd hot. Since I converted to a custom watercooler for GPU and CPU, I dont have any heat issues for my disks anymore. But an upgrade like that is very pricey.
I've had good experiences with Samsung M2 SSDs, with other companies the disks usually died away fairly quickly for me..

I think that this is the thing I ended up getting.

Looks like a decent disk. Im only running a 500gb and 1TB m2, all my files are on my NAS.
3mil hours MTBF is very high and the passive cooling is great. The disk should live a long and prosperous life! I hope the disk works well for you

Oh man. So much crap has happened since I made this journal, I don't even know where to begin. Got the drive, turns out the manufacturers formatted it incorrectly. It was a 4TB drive with only 2TB accessible. Reformatting it made it incompatible for use as a bootable device, so I couldn't use it as an operating system base, which made it useless for its intended purpose, so I had to send it back. However, this also revealed that the drive was not at issue, because the system was still crashing even though the 'faulty' drive was not in use.

Since then I've done all kinds of testing, I did this non-stop for over a week, the only times I stopped testing was to sleep. I've isolated the issue to be a problem with the RAM. Either one of the RAM sticks is bad or the RAM ports are bad. The fix will be different depending on this, and I still have a bit more testing to do to fix it, but for now I've figured out a configuration that works without issues, so I'm using the opportunity to get back to work. I just loaded up DAZ again a few minutes before writing up this response.
