Old version of Mickey Mouse now public domain

by
So the Short Steamboat Willy has entered public domain, and along with it the original version of Mickey Mouse, which means he can be used around as long as it still not used for profit or other instances, such as what happened when some guy created that infamous Air Pirates underground comic parody. I hear Disney would still take legal action about it.

As if that would stop the Internet and rule 34 either way.

No, not "for profit".  You can do whatever you want. You can even copyright it.  You can't call it Mickey Mouse, though, because that's trademarked.

The problem is the "ruby" slippers one (Wizard of Oz).  Use silver slippers like the book?  OK.  Imitate stuff like the ruby slippers and artwork or costumes or scenery from the movie?  That's a different kettle of fish.

Looked it up on Wikipedia.
'No, I won.' - Dan O'Neill had different goals than most people, haha.
