Still no PC, phone's getting old, family problems, and more...

The reason I don’t usually comment on things like this is that my own mental health is really bad and I can’t handle it.

However I’m commenting on this one because I might be able to help with the practical side of things.

In terms of phones, usually I buy a refurbished second hand iPhone each October - I buy the oldest one still supported by the newest version of the operating system. For example last year (2023) I bought a refurbished iPhone XR (2018). That way I get the excitement of a “new” phone each year without the cost.

That is still expensive, though, so another option is to buy a low-mid range Android phone. One good one is the Moto G Stylus 2023, which is $130 USD. Most Android phones will get updates for 2 years.

In terms of a PC, it depends what you want to do with it. If you want to use it for gaming, I can’t help you there. I can’t afford a gaming PC either. But if you want to use it for general purpose use, such as making art, watching YouTube, talking in Discord and Telegram, editing documents, and so on, then there are lots of computers that can do that.

A refurbished second hand MacBook Air with at least 8GB RAM, from between 2014 and 2018 can work well for that, though it can be prone to overheating. That is what I use as my main computer.

A low-mid range new Windows laptop, with at least a Core i3 and 8GB RAM, can also work well. Usually these have a less good display and no backlighting, but they do support more apps since many things are made for Windows only. I use one of these as my secondary computer.

Is ok. Been having a really bad year by now, just wanted to vent. So, don't worry.

And thanks for the tips, but still too much for me now.

A cheap laptop still works pretty well....

I got my Dell Lattitude E6540 for about $90.

Sure, it is "outdated" but it works and it plays emulators.

So long as I have a way to play old vidja games, I'm content.

Well, still kinda out of my stuff
Had bad experiences with machines with low specs, even outside games, considering mostly memory usage and such
