Got Robbed

Today when I checked my account I found that I had a negative balance, today I had to pay a credit that I have with the bank, but I see that they made several fraudulent charges to my account, in the name of a university that I have never touched in my life, to a phone company and amazon plus a charge of 0$ to what is an obvious fake Google account, I already talked to my bank to resolve this, but they say they will have an answer in a month (to be more specific on May 22nd) this has me completely bad because now all the money I earned these weeks is gone.

Ok. here is what you do

first, you go to the bank and speak to a professional. Lay out all the fraud charges and tell them this is not you making these.

Second, Ask them to cancel the charges and immediately do a freeze on the account. Then you can get at least some of your money back.

THIRD AND MOST IMPORTANT!!  Ask the bank for copies of the paperwork showing these fraud charges. Take them to the police and file a stolen identity complaint. This will trigger an investigation and likely within the next three months (This isnt a promise. just stats that this is about how long an investigation into stolen ID takes) you will get a call with a date to the court day of the person. You can then sue them for damages.

They are 100% right.  I did have my identity stolen and those are major steps to get things properly taken care of.

aren't a lot of banks FDIC covered? I mean should def do ALL what one can to cover their ass but I thought FDIC cover up to like a million dollars or something ... unless I am missing something??

most are but that only covers upto 100k per account and even then you have to meet exact criteria for them to cover your losses. however, the steps above listed are the full weight of the justice system. and this forces the bank to eat it because they cant handle bad PR.

one bank, known formerly as NBC (National Bank of Commerce) tried it. They ended up so low down they got bought up by Bank of America for less than pennies per share.

Would that work for countries like Mexico?

Probably not. The justice system in Mexico is very different than in the US.

Yeah from the image i saw it looks like it's a problem from a mexico bank, they can solve the issue yes, but it would take a while and sometimes it's not 100% fix once your account has been compromised sadly.

This happened to me a while back about 2 grand in fraudulent charges to a university for tests a university I've never herd of or been to in a state I've never visited.

Turns out the school was real though t reported it to my bank and the school and they back charged the fees I got all my money back. Please call your bank imidiatly.

Why people in the comments saying "call the bank" when he says in the post that he already did? It's like people just read the title and ignore the rest lol.

Sucks that your bank is telling you that it'll take a month for them to investigate. I got hit with suspicious amazon charges a few months ago and my bank immediately refunded me the amount temporarily while they investigated, which took less than a week, and they found in my favor and let me keep the money. It's unreasonable for a bank to say "oh you got fraudulent charges? Yeah live without money for a month".

How is that possible?
How can someone just charge someone else's bank account without their knowledge or approval?
Doesn't this bank have anykind of security measures?

My bf had that issue for months, where somehow somebody would get to steal money from him via an xbox sub that was obviously canceled over and over and asked the bank to be blocked, we use santander so what we did was to file the complaint, go there and also ask for a dynamic card via app, not only it changes everytime you want to use it but the rest of the times you're not using it remains disabled. Also he did got his money back so there's an extra security you could use.
