"As punishment, I'm going to review a Kiwi episode. :3"
I meant it, of course, but ...I'm slow. I made that comment on the 2nd of October, and ...was kinda fine to continue my procrastination. But, as it happened, Pingguolover reminded me of it today, so... here ya go!
Before we get into the re-view (which will be mercifully short, as I don't feel like writing), let's look at the featured pencil. :3
We know, as of writing, that my rarest pencil is the Dixon 'Harmony', and my most valuable is the APC 'Jewel' pencil ...but what's my oldest pencil? Well, that title used to belong to the 'Diagraph' by Eagle, before it was usurped by the 'Manufacturer' by Johann Faber ...and the aforementioned's crown has been taken by this unnamed pencil from A.W. Faber.
The featured pencil is a wooden mechanical pencil ...which, alas, has hardly any lead left (I didn't feel comfortable even to sign this card with it).
The pencil's barrel reads,
"HHHHHH A.W. Faber's Patent Aug. 13th 1861; Graphite de Siberie de la Mine Alibert"
So, it's a German-made pencil with 6H graphite mined from Siberia (Russia). The date on the pencil is *approximate, though it very likely was made in the 1860's (it's not possible to know exactly when).
*the date reflects the time the mechanism inside the pencil (that allowed the lead to be replaced) was patented; the pencil could be several years more recent. Btw, 08/13/1861 was a Tuesday! ^^
Anyway, why'd I feature an antique pencil with Kiwi here?
Because the story we're gonna look at is about Kiwi's experience with an antique---specifically, with a daguerreotype camera. ^^
Our story begins at the home of Mr. Koala, wherein Kiwi has discovered an antique camera. After expressing *interest in the camera, Mr. Koala grants Kiwi permission to test it out.
*Kiwi is an apprentice photographer for Yukari Village's community magazine
As mentioned, Kiwi's camera is the kind that makes *daguerreotype photographs. I'm unsure exactly what the process entails, but the camera creates images onto treated glass.
*the cartoon infers this, albeit it doesn't distinguish between daguerreotype and ambrotype---I'm merely guessing the former based on Kiwi's mentions of glass plates and red lighting,
KIWI: "Hm. The camera takes glass plates. First I have to dip them in this mixture using only a red light ...ready at last!"
Kiwi's first subject is Laura. Kiwi informs Laura that the photographic process of this particular camera is slow, hence she'll need to hold her poses for ten minutes. This doesn't go over well with Laura, who is more interested in playing tennis with Mimi (I cannot say I blame Laura for that! lol).
Failing to take Laura's picture, Kiwi wanders over to the beach, whereat he volunteers Roobear and Floppy to be his next subjects. The boys are willing to cooperate, though the ocean isn't---the photo session is wiped out before a single photo can be made.
Similar fates befall the next two sessions, with the penguins and Walter respectively.
Disenchanted with his bad luck (in part a consequence of Kiwi's poor timing and judgement), Kiwi is ready to call it quits,
KIWI (aloud, to self): "I guess I'll just take the camera back to Mr. Koala. At least I've learned that you can't take good pictures with an old camera like this"
Ah, but Kiwi's words are overheard by Mr. Curator ...who was out in the woods for some reason.
MR.CURATOR: "Yes you can, Kiwi! ...It's a wonderful camera; you can take wonderful pictures! A valuable antique like that should be in my museum!"
Kiwi explains he was unable to get his subjects to hold still for the ten minutes needed for the camera to embed images. Mr. Curator suggests Kiwi try taking pictures of things that don't move, such as scenery and objects. In fact. Mr. Curator has been in need of someone to take pictures for his museum's catalogue. Kiwi volunteers. *triumphant music plays* ...ok, not really, but Kiwi is successful.
Upon learning of Kiwi's fortune, Kiwi's friends gather and promise Kiwi they'll all hold still for a group photo, if Kiwi would grace them with another chance. Kiwi accepts, and his friends keep their word ...despite the attempt of a swarm of opportunistic, stinging insects (seemingly) hoping to thwart the endeavor. :3
...And that's the story. It's cute ...that's my assessment. ^^ :P :3
Ahh yessss, I remember that episode!! One of my favorite episodes from AOTLK actually. I've always liked Kiwi! Nice to see some more AOTLK artwork from you :3 Cute job!

oh yes I remember watching that episode on Nick Jr.(back when the cartoons were good, and not pumped out to sell merchandise, and didn't make any spin-offs from despite the creators wishes that he didn't want any spin off series to be made.I think you know which series I'm referring too) The AOTLK theme song is so nostalgic,it gives me ASMR when I hear the synth "pan pipes" at the very start^^
