Aleela is the fourth child of Simba and Nala.

In many ways, she takes after her big brother Kopa, though not many realize this, given Kopa's loss to the pride at a young age. For instance, she loves listening to stories.

Aleela is next in line to be queen, if something happened to Kiara. She doesn't think much of this role, and resents the requirement to take "royal" lessons, since it is far more likely Kiara will take the throne, and her son Sadeeki after her.

This is my first direct post about my upcoming series, currently titled "The Broken Circle Saga". It has been in production for half a year now, and I work on it live on Sundays. :) Right now it's too early to go too hog wild on details... Stay tuned!

Fun fact: Aleela has appeared in my drawings before, incognito! :D She is in two past drawings, but I wasn't ready to talk about the series yet.

How does inheritance work? Are her brothers not eligible for the throne? Or does Kiara become the queen while one of her brothers becomes king?

I love these kinds of questions! ^.^

I'll dig deeper into this in the course of the story of course, but here's the primer version:

Kiara has two brothers, both of whom were eligible for the throne. But her older brother, Kopa, who was the heir presumptive, is now presumed dead. Her younger brother, Kion, has moved to the Tree of Life to rule the Night Pride with Rani.

The next heir is chosen by the current ruler. In Simba's case, he chose Kiara, but Kion would have been next in line if something happened to her. Kiara, at the point of this story, has been "queen apparent" for quite some time, and is expected to take over leadership soon. When she does, there will be no king per se, but her mate, "Prince Consort Kovu" will take over the "male" responsibilities (defense and breeding), by the blessing of Kiara. Conceptually, she could choose any other male, so if Kion were still around she could have selected him as King (which, frankly, would have been probably been fine with Kovu).

Since Kiara is expected to be queen, the choice of successor is hers, and she has chosen her firstborn, Sadeeki. That is why it's unlikely Aleela will inherit the throne. For that to happen once Kiara is queen, something would have to happen to Kiara and then to Sadeeki. But tradition says she has to be trained anyway, just in case.
