Ileni was born to a tribe of hunter-gatherer leptis, and was close to her mother and siblings. She had lost her father to a volcanic swamp explosion when she was very young. She was 10 when another such explosion (one where she thought quickly enough so she wouldn't suffocate from the CO2) caused an odd temporal rift that nocked her not only to present-day, but halfway across the world. She had survived the bubble blast in time to see herself blasted into her distant future, and never knew if the rest of her family survived. She was found in a local forest in northwestern California by a family of raccoons who had decided to have a picnic one weekend there. Unsure of what they had at the time, they raised the young girlm taught her modern English and tried to get her into school. (They did, but not without difficulty-- Nobody could initially identify her species, so she ended up being labeled an "elephant shrew" with interesting markings- That stuck, even after finding out she was a member of an extinct species, not seen in many millions of years.) When she was old enough she had her name changed to "Ilene Lepti" (e-LEN LEP-ti), partly because she liked the French sounding, since she had come from that part of the world, originally.
Ilene met Amy Stereo, a small mousegirl 10 years older than she, while in the local record store. They hit it off well as friends, but both were secretly attracted to the other, but afraid to approach the subject. Amy is one of the few whom Ilene ever told the full story of her life, and what she is, to. No, they never got intimate, though Ilene did tell Amy she's bi.
Ilene adjusted well to a radically-modern world, much more different that the tribal tropical forest life she was born and raised to. She's nuts about movies (usually comedy or adventure, with sci-fi thrown into the mix), and prefers contemporary pop and metal, and drives a metallic-red Dodge Ram truck that used to be her adopted parents' truck. She's pretty good with an electric guitar, but never formally joined any bands.
She still has nightmares about the swamp explosion, and often cries for her family. She has ONE REAL DEEP FEAR: ANTS!!! She LOVES pizza. She has a tendency to sometimes slip into speaking her original language, especially when she's frustrated. She takes notes almost entirely in said language, unless they're meant to be read by someone else. She secretly wants to take a cute mousie to bed. ;)
She'll often make funny faces to get others to laugh, particularly with her snout. If a bug flies around her, she instinctively follows the bug, and does acrobatic flips, catching the bug with her snout, then eating it, often without regard to who's around her, usually provoking the occasional "EWWWW!" from Amy and others.
She's a student at a local college, and has plans to go into landscaping.
