Progress day had come and passed. With it, the traffic of people left Bandle City. The few foreigners who had come to the village had left. The peace and serenity of Bandlewood soon returned as if nothing had ever happened. Life had returned to normal and the yordles of the village went on with life regardless of their station in it. After all, holidays are but a respite from reality and offer only temporary solace from sometimes mundane existence.

The students of Bandle Academy had returned to school back to the normal routine of the schedule they had become used to. Teachers went back to whatever content they were working on before the holiday. The Arena had been converted back to its former use as a place to showcase sporting events and extracurricular school activities. The whole place was much quieter than it had been in the previous days and weeks leading up to the holiday.

Hailun was still in a sling as his arm had not yet fully recovered from his injury on the night of the holiday. It still ached on occasion and he still couldn't use it but he was making do all the same. It was another day of school for him and he was looking forward to seeing friends as it had been a few days since he was in the infirmary to make sure his infection didn't flare up. He was glad to finally be out of the stale environment of the clinic.

Hailun stood outside the school once he arrived at the building. The cool autumn air brushed against his fur as he looked around. He wondered where Kennen or Gnar was and yet neither could be seen. The red panda started to walk toward the school as he wanted to find his friends. Many cubs were still outside and the only ones he recognized were Teemo and Tristana, who paid him no mind as he passed them by.

Hailun made his way into the hall, rearranging the sling in which his arm was. Walking through the hall some of the other students looked at him oddly. The sight of an injured cub wasn't something they saw very often and so the idea of a sling was foreign to them. The red panda shrugged it off as no big ordeal. The boy continued making his way to his locker, periodically looking around to see who he could see.

Once he arrived at his wooden locker, he thought to himself how he would open it.  Hailun started to fiddle with it with his other paw, having a bit of difficulty with it.

"Need help there, bud?" An unfamiliar female voice beckoned to him from behind.

The red panda looked over his shoulder and saw a girl who he recognized as one of Kennen's friends.

Hailun nodded. "Yeah, thanks. Poppy, right?"

"Indeed, step aside and I'll help you." Poppy was a bit bigger than the boy and much more stout than he was.

Hailun stepped away and allowed her access. Poppy didn't bother moving much, instead making a single move to hit the locker with the side of her fist. The metallic door opened without issue.

"Thanks, heh." Hailun was surprised she was able to get in without a code.

She smiled at him. "No problem. How are you feeling anyway? Kenny didn't hurt you too bad did he?"

"Oh Nah…Kenny? Haha…I've never heard anyone call him that." The red panda smirked at the thought of the girl's nickname for his friend.

Poppy cocked an eyebrow at him. "I've known him for a while. He only lets me call him that."

"Right, makes sense. He's told me a lot about you." Hailun was glad to finally meet Kennen's best friend.

The girl crossed her arms. "Oh? Good things, I hope?"

"Yeah. Where's he at anyways?" The red panda looked behind him again, expecting to see Kennen somewhere.

She scratched her blonde hair. "I saw him earlier but he didn't stop to talk. Looked like he was trying to get something done so I didn't bother him."

"Ah, alright. Well, nice to meet you." Hailun held out his paw in a gesture of greeting.

Poppy shook his hand gladly, with a rather firm grip. "No problem. Let me know if you need anything more help."

"Mind if I ask you something silly since you're like…his best friend and all?" The boy wanted to see if he could learn more about Kennen since sometimes he was somewhat secretive.

The bigger girl hummed. "Maybe but don't go looking for me to tell you something secret."

"Right, well I dunno. I guess it is?" Hailun thought about it a second, had the other boy told anyone else about his feelings?

Poppy placed her hand on the other boy's shoulder. "Well? Out with it. I'll tell you if it is."

"Okay, well he said he liked me and stuff. I just wanted to know…has he talked to you about that?" The red panda couldn't help but be curious about it.

The girl grinned widely and removed her touch from his shoulder. "Perhaps."

"Thanks, Poppy." Hailun was tempted to hug her but didn't want to be weird about it.

Poppy hesitated a second before speaking again. "And you? Do you like him as well?"

"I dunno. I guess. He's a good friend. I like to hang out with him." The red panda wasn't sure how he felt about Kennen just yet.

She smiled again. "You'll figure it out. Let me know if you ever want to talk about it. I won't tell him…don't worry."

"Thanks again. I'm gonna go look for him now." Hailun was still eager to see the other cub before class.

Hailun separated from the girl. She popped the locker door back closed, whispering to herself. "Go get your hero."

The boy made his way back through the halls looking around. Eventually running into gnar who was galloping amuck through the halls without any sense or purpose. Hailun couldn't help but giggle as the orange yordle raced past him. The red panda made his way to class, assuming that Kennen would be there. Yet looking around it didn't seem that was the case. He decided instead to wait around and see when he arrived.

Just as the bell was about to ring Kennen finally showed up.

"Hey, dude!" Hailun got up, his tail wagging behind him as he was happy to see the other boy.

Kennen avoided making eye contact with him, instead pushing his way into the class. Had Kennen just ignored him? Hailun couldn't be certain but it certainly felt that way. The red panda made his way into the class and noticed Kennen had taken one of the rear seats. All of the chairs around him were taken. The boy frowned but supposed it didn't matter who he sat with. Though he wasn't sure who he'd work with if there was group work.

Amumu soon waded his way into the class, Hailun waved him over since he didn't know anyone else well in the class and he didn't want him to be lonely. The green yordle smiled lightly before joining him.

"How are you, Amumu?" Hailun realized it had been a while since he talked to the other boy.

"It's been a while, heard you were hurt because of the jerk. You alright?" Amumu asked with a smile.

The red panda huffed. "He didn't do it on purpose. I'm alright though. What about you?"

"It goes, I guess." The smaller boy looked down at his desk, seeming disappointed.

Hailun touched his back. "You alright?"

"Oh, yeah. I'll be fine I guess." Amumu looked up again, allowing the other cub to look into his eyes.

Hailun noticed the smaller boy's eyes were bloodshot as if he hadn't slept in a while.  "You look tired."

"You could say that." The green yordle yawned inadvertently.

The red panda frowned. "Are people messing with you again?"

"I am just lonely." Amumu shrugged at the question, not seeming bothered by it.

The bigger boy thought for a second before speaking. "How about I introduce you to one of my friends later?"

"Okay." The green yordle stoic reaction to the idea surprised the other boy a bit.

The class started before long. Alchemy's lesson was to mix healing salves for the day. The instructor began handing out herbs to each of the tables. Hailun looked at them and wondered if he should let the other boy take the lead. The red panda looked over his shoulder and saw Kennen was working with someone else. He was glad at least he had found a partner but disappointed it wasn't himself.

Amumu began mixing the herbs in a mortar in a pestle. The boy had worked on the stuff before enough to not need much instruction in the matter. Hailun was surprised to see the green yordle knew something about it. In fact, he finished the mixture even before the teacher had gone through the lesson.

"Wow, you're good at this." Hailun complimented the other boy.

Amumu smiled. "Thanks, my mother taught me it back in Shurima."

"Ah…right. I forgot you moved here as well." The red panda scratched the back of his head.

The green yordle panned his head over. "Where were you from before here?"

"Ionia. I was very young though. I don't remember it. Do you remember Shurima?" Hailun tried to take an interest in the other boy's past.

Amumu hummed. "Only the deserts…I don't remember much."

"But you remember how to do this so that's something right?" The bigger boy knew he had to be positive with the other cub who he knew had issues with self-confidence.

The smaller boy nodded, continuing to dabble with the herbs in front of him. Hailun watched his friend as he tinkered, glad he seemed to have something that he liked. The instructor eventually checked in on them and gave them the thumbs up for a job well done. Once the class was over they headed out the door together. The red panda decides to stay behind for Kennen.

"Don't wait up for me alright, mumu?" He said to the green yordle as he waved him off.

Amumu nodded and went off on his own. Hailun stepped to the side of the door and waited a few seconds until Kennen made his way out of the door.

"Hey, dude. What's up?" He beckoned to the bigger cub.

Kennen snapped his head to the left, clearly noticing the other boy but deflected his attention back forward. Not saying a word he continued walking. Immediately Hailun began to think he had done something wrong to anger the other cub. Yet, he had been away from school for a while and he didn't think he had the chance to do something screwy. The red panda couldn't
 help but be confused.

Hailun began to walk down the hall, not wanting to be around anyone. He wanted to figure it out. Whatever he had done wrong, he wanted to correct and apologize. Maybe he should just say sorry, he told himself. Determining instead that he needed to figure out what was behind the other cub's actions. He made his way to the next class. His dilly-dallying while thinking about it almost caused him to be late.

Hailun figured he'd give Kennen some space for a bit, at least until he figured out what was going on. Still, he couldn't help but feel bothered by it. In survival class, Kennen made sure to partner up with this someone different this time. Seeing Kennen with Poppy didn't alarm him since the girl was his best friend anyways. The red panda found himself palled up with yordle he only knew from afar.

Hailun looked at the smaller boy in front of him, one who had a rather notorious reputation. It was Teemo. The leader of the Bandle Scouts junior troop that many of his peers had joined and staked unquestioning loyalty to. Before this day Teemo had never said much to Hailun and yet the red panda wasn't about to turn away at the chance to make a new friend. The teacher was going through attendance, giving them a small chance to get acquainted.

"Hey, you're teemo right? My name is Hailun. Nice to meet you." The red panda held out his hand in a gesture of greeting.

Teemo looked at the hand and then back at the bigger cub. "Yeah, I'm Teemo."

"Cool, so are you a native of Bandle?" Hailun wasn't sure what else to talk about.

Teemo nodded. "Yeah, I was born here. Why?"

"Just curious. What kind of stuff do you like to do?" The red panda wasn't sure where to go with the conversation.

The smaller cub gave a scouts salute. "Go scouting! Do you want to enlist in the scouts?"

"You guys are recruiting? Maybe but what sort of stuff is involved?" The bigger boy had heard all about the group but wasn't sure what they did.

Teemo huffed. "Well, the junior scouts go on camping trips and stuff. It's all good fun. We're always looking for new members. Our next meeting is next weekend. If you want to join then you can just show up to school on Saturday in the morning."

"Camping trips sound good. You can count me in." Hailun was willing to try something if it meant he got to have more friends.

The smaller cub gave him a thumbs up. "Great, sounds good."

"Cool, thanks for letting me join." The red panda smiled at Teemo.

Teemo shrugged. "Well you're not in yet but joining isn't hard so don't worry about that. Just don't be late."

The lesson started before long with the cubs being tasked to go outside and see if they could find edible berries. Since Hailun was already with Teemo he figured he'd stick with the other boy and continue to let Kennen have some space. The smaller boy led outside into the area behind the school. Hailun was glad to be out in the open air as it was often stuffy inside the school.

Hailun began to wander around, not sure what he was looking for. There were all sorts of bushes around and he didn't think they had berries in them. He could see that Teemo was already out and about looking through the bushes.

"Finding anything?" The red panda wondered if the other cub had any luck.

Teemo offered his paw back behind the other cub. "Some but we need more than this."

"Right, let me see if I can help some." Hailun began rifling through some of the bushes looking for anything he could find.

A few seconds later he found some purple berries, though he didn't know if they were safe to eat or not. He showed them to Teemo.

"How about these?" Hailun held his paw open so the other cub could see what he had found.

The smaller cub shook his head. "Scouts rule number 3: Never assume a berry is safe without your trustee scout handbook."

"Scout handbook? Did you bring one with you?" The red panda quickly tossed the berries to the side and wiped his hand on his pant leg.

Teemo pointed at his head. "I've memorized it. I want to be the master scout one day."

"That's cool. Say…can I ask you something?" Hailun thought he would inquire about the other boy's relationship.

The other cub jumped into a tree. "Yeah, sure. Shoot."

"You and Tristana are dating, right?" The red panda hoped he wasn't being too personal.

Teemo hesitated and looked down from the branch. "Yeah, why?"

"How long have you guys been together?" The bigger boy started to look through another bush for some more berries.

The smaller yordle hummed. "A while. I dunno maybe a year or more."

"What's it like? You know…being in a relationship or whatever?" Hailun had never been in one before and was curious about it since he assumed Kennen was interested in one.

Teemo hopped down. "It's hard to explain. I guess I just like being around her and she makes me feel warm inside. Do you have someone you're interested in?"

"I guess. I think they are mad at me though. I don't know why they would be though." Hailun thought about it again and still came up blank.

The smaller yordle walked up to the bigger one and tapped him on the shoulder. "Sometimes it's like that if one person or the other feels jealous. Have you been hanging around someone else?"

"No, no one different. I just got back to school today from my injury." The red panda rearranged his sling to make it more comfortable.

Teemo showed off his new finding to the other cub. "Well, I'm not sure what to tell you. You didn't tell me who it is and so I can't make an educated guess as to who you're talking about."

"Right, well I'm not sure I like them yet and they told me the other day so I'm still trying to understand what it means." Hailun was somewhat afraid of admitting who he was talking about.

Teemo put the berries into a small bag. "It's a boy, isn't it?"

"No…it's not." The red panda huffed at being partially discovered.

The smaller boy took the other by the hand and brought him to his level. "You're asking for my help…so I don't know why you're trying to lie to me. I don't like that."

"Fine…I'm sorry. Yes…it's a boy. I just…wasn't ready to admit it…I guess?" Hailun looked down at the floor.

Teemo touched the other boy and rubbed his back. "It's alright. I understand. So are you going to tell me who it is or not?"

"No…I don't think he wants people to know. The red panda recalled the issue being brought up the other day by Kennen.

The smaller boy rolled his eyes. "Right. I will respect that. I'm not sure how else I can help then."

"If I tell you do you promise not to say anything?" Hailun wanted reassurance more than anything.

Teemo shrugged. "Why would I? What do I have to gain? It's not Veigar is it?"

"No, I don't know who that is. It's Kennen."  The bigger boy sighed upon admitting it.

The other yordles eyes grew wider. "Oh? Really? I thought he liked Poppy. He told me he was going out with her."

"I don't think so. I know she's his best friend but I don't think they are dating like you and Tristana are." Hailun stopped to think about it a bit more as Kennen had been hanging out with her the entire day.

"Hmm. Well, I'm afraid I don't know him that well. I know he hung out with her a lot even before saying anything to me. Though…I don't talk to him much." Teemo looked the other way to see if he could see Kennen around.

Hailun wasn't sure what to make of the situation. "But why did he bring it up his relationship with Poppy if you don't talk to him much?"

"Cause Tristana wanted to go on a double date with someone and so I asked around. Other people mentioned it, so I asked him." Teemo shrugged as if it was no big deal.

Hailun sighed. "Oh, alright. Was this recent?"

"Yeah. I guess you like him?" The smaller cub could tell the other boy was upset despite his efforts to hide his feelings.

The red panda frowned. "I guess. I dunno though."

"It's alright. Everyone is different. I won't judge you for you who you like. Maybe I can talk to him for you?" The other yordle didn't want his new friend to be upset.

Hailun shook his head. "Nah, it's alright. I just want him to be happy. I'm fine with him being with Poppy. Thanks anyway."

"Are you…sure?" Teemo wasn't sure if the other boy was leading him on or not.

The bigger boy sighed. "Yeah. I'll be alright. Thanks for your opinion."

"Suit yourself." The smaller boy was still a little tempted to help out even if his new friend didn't want it.

"Thanks again." Hailun smiled at the other boy.

The two continued foraging for berries until the satchel was full. Hailun was a little distracted but was able to manage himself all the same. Teemo and the other boy remained together but not talking much more for the remainder of the class. Once the class was over Hailun found himself alone again. Deciding he would spend some time by himself at least until lunchtime when he could hang out with Gnar again.

Teemo did not like to be misled. He didn't know Hailun or Kennen well and yet he had taken an interest in the situation. The boy had already arranged a double date with Kennen. Figuring it would be worth it to check in to see if Kennen was going to show up or not, especially considering what he had just learned. Out in the hall, Teemo looked for Kennen, not knowing where he usually hung around.

After asking around for a bit, Teemo discovered that Kennen had been hanging out on his own in the courtyard. Wasting no time the yordle made his way into the courtyard.

"Hello, Kennen. How goes it?" Teemo approached slowly from behind.

Kennen looked over his shoulder while sitting on the bench. "Oh, hey. Fine. What's up?"

"We still on for that double date, yeah?" The standing cub folded his arms.

The other yordle nodded. "Yeah, why?"

"Because Hailun told me about what you said. He's upset you are with Poppy now." Teemo maintained a rather stern tone.

Kennen looked away. "So what?"

"Don't be a butt about it. Why would you tell him that
if it wasn't true? It's not cool at all." Teemo slapped the other boy on his back.

The other yordle stood up to size himself up against Teemo. "Why do you care?"

"I'm not looking for a fight. Either you apologize or you're not invited anymore." The smaller cub wasn't intimidated at all by the other boy.

The bigger boy turned his back. "Whatever, I don't care. Leave me alone."

"I thought you were better than this. I guess not. Don't talk to me again." Teemo decided to leave the other boy.

Kennen looked behind him again. Teemo was nowhere to be seen now. He had no idea how the other boy had found out but he was furious. Telling himself that he would have to confront Hailun now. He stomped his foot into the gravel of the courtyard and walked back to class.

It would not be until lunch that Kennen and Hailun would have a chance to reconcile. The red panda arrived in the cafeteria, looking around for Gnar. The excitable orange yordle waved him over to his table. The red panda couldn't help but smile at seeing a friendly face again. Hailun made his way through the line and grabbed himself a tray of food before heading his way. Crossing right past Kennen as he made his way. The bigger boy pushes him to the side of the line to get his attention.

"What the hell dude, why did you tell Teemo?" Kennen stood square with Hailun, seeming rather upset.

Hailun huffed. "I…uh…I didn't?"

"Yes, you did. Don't lie." The bigger boy pushed him a second time, this time a little more aggressively.

The red panda's face burned with anger. He stood there uncertain of what to do.

"Come on, talk." Kennen pushed him again, this time making sure it was hard enough to knock him on the floor

Gnar rushed over from where he was sitting. Hailun began to tear up. His bad arm had hit the wooden ground and ached terribly. The orange yordle tackles Kennen from afar to keep him from causing any more terror than he already had. Two of the teachers came rushing in to break up the apparent scuffle. Hailun was still without movement as the pain wracked through his body, passing out again from the pain

The teachers separated Gnar and Kennen, picking both of them up by the scruff of their necks. A nurse came in before long to take care of the injured yordle. The fight was broken up before it could escalate any further. It was not until the end of the day that Hailun woke up again. The school counselors had already questioned both Gnar and Kennen. Deciding that the red panda would have to wait until he recovered.

Hailun woke in the school clinic bed with a throbbing headache. He couldn't quite remember what had happened. He leaned up in the bed and looked to see a familiar face at his bedside.

"You alright there, hero?" Poppy had stopped in to see the boy since she had witnessed his scuffle with Kennen in the cafeteria.

Hailun squinted. "I guess. It still hurts a lot."

"Well, Kenny was a jerk to you. I'm not sure what got into him but I'm going to have a little talk with him about how he treats his friends." She pushed her chair closer to the bed.

The red panda pushed himself up in the bed so he could sit. "I'm not sure he wants to be friends anymore."

"Hmm. I dunno about that. I just think he may have been upset, though that doesn't make up for his actions." Poppy shook her head seeming disgusted with Kennen.

Hailun sighed. "I guess I shouldn't have told Teemo."

"Teemo? Are you even friends with him?" The girl scratched her blonde hair as if thinking about it.

The red panda tried to shrug but it hurt too much to do it. "I guess not. I only talked to him today."

"Well, then maybe you shouldn't have said something. Still, the way he reacted is uncalled for. I promise I will talk to him but I think you owe him an apology too." Poppy was always rather blunt with her logic.

Hailun nodded. "Yeah, I will."

"Get some rest. You hit your head pretty hard. I'll be back to check on you later." The girl picked herself up from the chair and made her way out.

The red panda eased his body back down before resting his eyes again. Poppy was determined to set things right between them. She wasn't about to let either of them down. She made her way to the detention room to see if she could convince the teachers to let Kennen out for a bit to see the injured cub. She wasn't entirely sure they'd be alright with it but it was worth a shot, she told herself.

Poppy made her way back to the detention room. Gnar had already been released since he hadn't instigated anything so she knew the only one left was Kennen. She popped her head in. The boy waved to her. The teacher inside gave Kennen a death stare, making him stop waving immediately. The girl didn't pay the boy any mind and made her way to the teacher to explain the situation.

"So...I know Kenny is in a lot of trouble. I accept that and it's fine but I was thinking maybe he should apologize to Hailun?" Poppy suggested to the older woman.

The grey-furred yordle crossed her arms. "The boy he attacked? Is he awake now?"

"Mostly. He's not out of bed quite yet but I just talked to him." The younger girl was hopeful that the woman would approve of the idea.

The teacher leaned back in her chair. "I trust you will return him to me after?"

"You mean, Kenny? Oh, yes. He must serve his time." Poppy nodded as she wouldn't have it any other way.

The woman hummed and nodded. "10 minutes and not a second more. Understood?"

"Yes, ma'am. Come on Kenny." She waved to the other cub for him to follow her.

Kennen wasted no time in getting up. He wasn't about to protest leaving despite not having heard most of the conversation.

"Am I leaving?" Kennen couldn't help but ask Poppy as she led him toward the clinic.

Poppy didn't look back. "No, you're going to mend a broken fence before it's too late."

"A broken fence?" The boy had no idea what she was talking about.

The girl rotated quickly. "Look, I don't know what's got into you lately. You hurt your supposed friend because he told him your silly secret?"

"You mean Hailun? He told Teemo...we were supposed to go with them remember?" Kennen had been looking forward to it as a chance to redeem his image in the school.

Poppy pushed him against the lockers. "We're not doing anything until you apologize to him."

"Fine...but I still don't like him." The boy huffed defiantly.

The girl sighed. "Why are you so worried about what people think about you? What about Hailun?"

"He doesn't like me anyways. He said so.." Kennen was still stuck on being accepted by his peers more than his friend.

Poppy backed up. "You're so stubborn sometimes. Did you ever think about his feelings?"

Kennen hesitated a second and didn't answer.

"Exactly. Now come on...we only have 10 minutes before you get in even more trouble." Poppy took him by the hand again and led him toward the clinic.

They eventually arrived at the clinic. Hailun was still laying down and hadn't moved much. Poppy didn't say a word and pointed. Kennen huffed and slowly approached the bed. The other boy was resting his eyes so he had no idea that Kennen was there.

"Hey, dude. You alright?" Kennen asked as he looked down at the other cub's form.

Hailun took a second to come around before answering. "Kennen?"

"Yeah. It's me." The bigger cub peered over the other boy's form taking notice of his still-slung arm.

Hailun tried to force a smile. "I thought you hated me..."

"I was pretty mad, I guess I lost my temper." Kennen scratched the back of his head.

The smaller boy sighed. "Sorry I told Teemo."

"I...it's alright. Why did you tell him anyways? You don't even know him that well do you?" The other cub had never seen Hailun hanging around with Teemo before.

The red panda hummed a bit. "I just wanted to know what it was like to have a girlfriend or whatever."

"You what?" Kennen stood there dumbfounded as to the other boy's reasoning.

Hailun tried to sit up to get more comfortable, rearranging himself a bit. "Remember when you told me you liked me? Well...I've been thinking about it a lot."

"You have but why?" The other boy couldn't help but think that he'd been a jerk to his friend.

The smaller boy raised forward with his remaining arm to try to touch Kennen but couldn't quite reach. "Because I want to make you happy."

"Oh...wow. I didn't know Well...look I'm sorry I was a jerk to you today. I guess I was just afraid of people finding out and when Teemo asked me out to the double date thing, I couldn't help but jump on it." Kennen frowned a bit, ashamed of his behavior.

Hailun smiled. "It's alright. Please don't be sad. I'm not mad. You can still go to the double date with Teemo and Tristana if you want."

"Really? You don't care?" The bigger yordle was already having second thoughts about it.

The red panda murmured. "Mhm. I don't mind."

Kennen looked back at Poppy who was still listening in on the conversation without a word. The boy huffed.

"I have a better idea...how about you go with me instead? After all...I need to make it up to you and Teemo didn't care who I brought." Kennen gritted his hands together.

Hailun hesitated a second before answering. "Really? Do you want to go with me? But what about Poppy?"

"I think she will be alright with it. Right, Poppy?" Kennen looked over at her for her approval.

The girl smiled at the two, glad they had reconciled things. She nodded at him.

"It's settled then...you'll be my...date...for it." The bigger cub still had mixed feelings about being public about it but knew he needed to make it up to the other boy for his actions.

"Cool. Hey, Kennen?" Hailun stared intently into his friend's eyes.

The bigger yordle nodded. "Yeah?"

"Did you mean what you said the other day?" Hailun just wanted to be sure.

Kennen sighed. "Yeah, I guess."

"Can...I hold your hand?" The red panda asked since he knew he couldn't reach it.

The other boy smiled and placed his hand down low
enough so the other could reach it. Hailun clutched it with his strong hand and squeezed it. Kennen leaned in and kissed the other boy on his forehead, making him blush a bit. Poppy couldn't help but smile.

"Sorry to interrupt the moment boys but Kenny here has detention to serve." Poppy said as she knew their deadline had to be approaching soon.

Kennen smirked at her. "I gotta go, Hailun. Get better soon, alright?"

"Okay, Kenny." Hailun couldn't help but use the boy's pet name.

Poppy chuckled at him as she waited for Kennen to rejoin her. The boy soon returned to her side and they made their way back to detention. On the way she stopped him one more again just before he entered the same room, he came from.

"Ken, I know you were conflicted about it but you did the right thing by letting him go instead of me." She said with a coy smile on her face.

The boy huffed. "I guess. I just hope I didn't make a mistake."

"I will talk to Teemo if you want. I don't think he'll tell people." She shrugged as she was unsure what Teemo's reaction would be.

Kennen scratched his head. "He said he didn't care who I brought with me but I dunno. He's always a mystery."

"Yeah, he is. I'll talk to Tristana instead. She'll keep him in place. Don't worry about it and just try to have fun." Poppy figured it was a better idea since she knew Tristana better.

The boy grabbed Poppy's shoulder. "Thanks, Poppy. I owe you."

"You got it, bub. Besides...I think you two will make a cute couple." The bigger girl chuckled at the thought.

Kennen blushed. "Oh, hush...we're not a couple."

"Not yet your not. Relax, you know I'm just playing with you. Now go back to detention before you get in more trouble." Poppy waved to him before seeing herself off.

Hailun rested his eyes again, happy to know things were at peace again. Kennen served the rest of his detention alone. Poppy returned to sit with Hailun so that he had company. The red panda remained quiet for the most part.

It was a few hours before Hailun was discharged. The school nurse finally cleared him of concussion protocol. She insisted that Poppy remained at his side just in case he needed something. The girl had become a sort of make-shift aid for the time being. The girl helped Hailun out of his bed. It took Hailun a few steps to regain his footing.

"Hey, Poppy. Thanks for everything." Hailun said to the girl, appreciating her efforts.

She playfully slapped him on the back. "No problem, hero."

"You're not upset are you?" The red panda was worried he'd be taking her spot at Kennen's side for the event.

Poppy shook her head. "Oh, Nah. I don't think he wanted to go with me anyways."

"Oh? How come? You seem nice enough." Hailun was surprised Kennen and Poppy weren't closer than just friends.

She leaned in. "Because he doesn't like me that way."

"Right...haha. Sorry. Do you think he's out of detention now?" The red panda couldn't help but think about the other boy now.

Poppy shrugged. "He was probably sent home. It's pretty late and you need to get home."

"Can I ask you something silly?" Hailun slowly worked his way out of bed.

The girl nodded. "Sure, bud. What's up?"

"I want to surprise him with something on the day out...any ideas?" The red panda stood upright, hobbling a bit.

Poppy rushed over to help him up. "You're sweet you know that? You like him a lot huh?"

"Yeah, I guess so. I want to make him happy. So what do you think I should do?" Hailun eased off her as he regained his balance.

The girl shrugged. "I dunno. I've never been on a date with anyone before."

"Okay. Thanks anyway. I'll come up with something."The red panda immediately started thinking of ideas.

Poppy saw the other boy home, making sure that he made it there. His parents thanked her for her diligent work. They tried to reward her but she refused the good and waved them off. Hailun waved to her, his heart still feeling warm even despite everything that happened that day. When asked about his day, the cub left out certain details instead of passing them off as his clumsiness. Of course, his parents had been told earlier about the issue go since he seemed in a good mood despite what had happened. They couldn't help but think something else was up but weren't certain what it was.

Over the next two days, Hailun mentioned the upcoming event. The yordle cub had spoken it up to his parents as "hanging out with his friend". They were alright with it, as long as he returned before curfew. The ordeal had been on the boy's mind throughout the two days as he'd thought about it a few and he'd talked about it at length. He even went as far as to ask his parents about what he could do to dress up nicely. Immediately they began to grow suspicious. Did he have someone special in his life? They couldn't help but be curious

Neither his father nor mother pestered him about the issue, figuring he would tell them when he was ready. Hailun even asked for extra chores, much to his parent's delight. When asked what he was trying to buy. He played it off as a box of chocolates. They soon discovered the box sat in the ice box untouched. It was evident that he had bought it for whoever he was going with but still, they did not press the issue, figuring that they would eventually show themselves.

The two days came and went pretty quickly. Hailun felt he was ready to go and have a good time. He was a bit nervous but he was still looking forward to it. Kennen had told him that the double date was to be in the afternoon at a local eatery. He also said he would pick up the other cub so that they could walk together to the event. Poppy had already talked to Tristana who assured him that Kennen's choice of partner for the event would remain secret. When Kennen learned this, he was much more at ease about it all.

It was finally Saturday late morning and Hailun had spent the morning donning the fanciest garb he could find. A traditional Ionian garment laced with red and yellow, embroidered with the house symbol of the boy's family clan. It was something he hadn't worn in a while, finding it to be somewhat tight on his form. Still, he wasn't about to spoil the day he had been looking forward to for some time.

Around midday, there was a rapping on the door. Hailun burst out of his seat, a knot already tied in his stomach.

"I'll get it." He announced to the house so that his parents didn't come to the door.

Of course both his mother and father overheard the sound. They had grown increasingly curious about who the other person was. They had even discussed the prospect of the boy having his first crush. The mother standing in the hall, looking towards the door as her son answered it. Hailun popped open the door and was greeted by Kennen. The other boy was donned in similar Ionian garments, except his garment was laced with purple and yellow.

"Hey, Hailun. You ready?" Kennen said sheepishly as if nervous.

The boy's mother stood looking down the hall, seeing the two boys opposite one another. The sight didn't alarm her as she just wanted her kid to be happy. She was hoping Hailun would introduce her to him.

"Wait one, sec." The red panda padded over into the kitchen, passing right by his mother.

She hesitated a second before asking the obvious question on her mind. "Is that your little friend your going out with?"

"Oh, yeah. That's Kennen. Want to meet him? He's super neat." The boy said looking up at her with a huge grin on his face.

The woman nodded. "Oh, yes. Most certainly."

"Okay, one sec." Hailun fetched his box of chocolates from the fridge before nodding for his mother to follow him.

Kennen saw the other cub's mother approach and couldn't help but feel nervous. He wasn't entirely sure what to say.

"Mom, this is Kennen. Kennen this is my Mom." Hailun hid the little box of chocolates behind his back for the time being.

The other boy backed away a bit, murmuring slightly. "H...hi?'

"Nice to meet you. Don't worry kiddo, I don't bite." She said sensing his unease.

Kennen remained silent for a few seconds unsure of how to respond to her comment.

"Well...you two have fun alright?" The red panda's mother smiled warmly at them.

Hailun nodded. "Yeah, mom. See ya later!"

"Home before dinner, alright? No funny business Mr. Kennen." She waved her finger at the other boy.

Kennen gulped before speaking. "Yes, ma'am."

Hailun pushed his way out the door and his mother closed it behind him, leaving the two mostly alone.

"Oh, hey...I got you something for tonight." Hailun revealed his good arm showing off the small box of chocolates to the other cub.

Kennen looked at the gift and smiled. "Thanks, dude."

The red panda was still in a sling so he reached around to hug the other boy with his other arm. The box of chocolates smacks the other boy in the back.

"M-maybe we should go so we're not late, alright?"The bigger boy suggested as he didn't want to keep Teemo waiting.

The smaller cub nodded and released the other boy before handing him the chocolates. Kennen took the treat and placed it under his arm for the time being. The two walked next to each other, Kennen deciding it probably wasn't best to hold the other boy's hand so close to Hailun's house. Yet their little secret had mostly proved itself and the mother didn't think much about it as it didn't bother her either way.

Kennen and Hailun made their way to the local eatery that Teemo had talked about the other day. It was a nice day out and there weren't many clouds in the sky. When they arrived, the two boys found Tristan and Teemo sitting outside already waiting for them. The girl waved them over as she spotted them.

"Hey, guys. Thanks for joining us." Tristana said as she greeted them.

Kennen smiled meekly as he eyed Teemo. "Thanks for inviting us."

Teemo looked at the two boys and smirked. "I'm glad to see you changed your mind, Kennen."

"Thanks?" The bigger yordle
shrugged as he wasn't sure why Teemo cared so much.

"Well...sit down and we can order. It's our treat." Tristana suggested since it was her idea to invite them anyways.

Hailun huffed. "Wow. That's super nice of you."

"It's cool. Teemo has lots of allowance anyways. He showed me already...haha." The girl said as she playfully shoved her boyfriend.

Teemo rolled his eyes. "Whatever."

"Oh, hush. You wanted this just as much as I did. Especially after..." Tristana was interrupted by Teemo.

He stomped on her foot. "Enough. I will pay for it."

"Good boy." She kissed him on the cheek.

Hailun looked confused over at Kennen. The two weren't sure what that was about. It wasn't long before a waitress arrived and took the cubs ordered. Each of them ordered their meal. The red panda stuck to something cheap as he felt bad for sticking Teemo with a bigger bill. Once the order was taken, the older yordle retreated into the kitchen leaving the two pairs alone again.

"So, are you guys dating now?" Tristana couldn't help but be curious.

Teemo jammed his shoulder into her again. "Stop..."

"Ow...I just want them to talk." She rubbed her side.

Kennen huffed. "No."

"How come? You guys seem to get along well enough." The girl didn't know how to stop while she was ahead.

Her boyfriend gave her a stare. "Tris...stop."

Hailun looked over at his friend and saw that he was uncomfortable. "Cause we're not ready yet."

"Oh, alright. Fair enough." Tristana frowned a bit.

An awkward silence was shared for a few minutes until the food was served. Teemo was especially glad that Tristana had stopped asking about it. The waitress soon returned with a platter with their meals on it. Each of them was handed a plate until the serving tray was empty. Most of them waste no time in beginning to eat.

"The food is good. Thanks, Teemo." Hailun made sure to thank the other boy.

He gave a thumbs up. "No problem."

The red panda looked over at Kennen who was toying with his food, whispering to him. "You alright?"

Kennen nodded before getting up, leaving the box of chocolates behind him. "I need to use the restroom. I'll be back."

Hailun wondered if it might be something else and contemplated following him but thought it might be weird. He continued to eat instead. It wasn't until he was finished that he realized Kennen still hadn't come back. Deciding that it was time to go check on his friend.

"I'm going to go check on him. I'll be back." Hailun announced before excusing himself from the table.

Teemo stared at Tristana again whispering to her. "See what you did?'

Hailun made his way back to the bathroom. Knocking on the door he heard a voice from inside.

"Go away." Kennen sniffled.

Hailun tried fiddling with the knob but it was locked. "Are you alright?"

"Leave me alone." The other yordle had little desire to talk to anyone.

The red panda sighed. "What's wrong?"

"We're both boys. We shouldn't be dating." Kennen spoke in his broken voice.

Hailun hesitated before responding. "We're not dating. You said it yourself."

"But this is a double date and you're here with me instead of Poppy." The bigger boy shoved himself into the corner of the bathroom.

The other boy wasn't sure how to answer that. "I can leave if you want."

Kennen didn't answer and continued to cry softly inside. Hailun decided he should check in with Teemo and Tristana to let them know he was going home. He made his way back to the table and looked over at them.

"I'm going home. He doesn't want me here so...yeah." Hailun huffed.

Teemo stood up. "Sit down. You're not going anywhere. Sit down, please."

The red panda was a bit confused but sat down since he didn't want to upset Teemo. Hailun sat back down and watched as Teemo left the table, leaving him with Tristana who was still without words. Teemo made his way back to the bathroom. Not bothering to knock on the door he reached into his pocket and pulled out his scout tool set. The cub picks the lock with very little effort.

Peering his head into the bathroom, he saw Kennen on the other side of the bathroom. The smaller boy made his way over to him. The bigger yordle was curled up into his legs, still crying. Teemo soon joined him on the floor, sitting right next to him without an invitation.

"What do you want?" Kennen asked while still sniffling.

Teemo sighed. "Look, I know your conflicted or whatever but you can't keep doing this."

"Doing what?" The other yordle looked up from his shame.

The smaller cub hummed. "You can't invite your friend on a date and leave him out to dry."

"I'm not. He wants to go home...so let him." Kennen looked away.

Teemo touched the other boy on the shoulder. "Is that what he wants or are you being selfish again?"

Kennen didn't say a word.

"You need to search inside yourself. Decide what you want. We will be leaving shortly. But you need to figure this out. It isn't fair to Hailun." The other yordle said sternly.

The bigger boy murmured. "But boys aren't supposed to date."

"Who told you that? Plenty of boys date. You two would hardly be the first. So stop buying into the garbage. It's not like I'm going to judge you for bringing him. Date or not..." Teemo tried to reassure the other boy.

Kennen looked back over at him. "Really? You don't care?"

"No, and even if I did. Who cares what other people think? It's ultimately what makes you and your friend happy." Teemo got back up.

"I guess." The bigger boy wiped his eyes.

"Figure out what you want to do. We'll wait a few minutes. If you don't show up then we'll just leave." The smaller boy made his way back out to the tables.

Hailun watched as he returned. "Is he alright?"

Teemo wasn't sure he should share the conversation he had with the other cub. "Time will tell."

Tristana smiled at her boyfriend and waited for him to rejoin them. He sat back down and they began having small talk about stuff at school. Some time passed and still, Kennen had not rejoined them. Teemo waved over to the waitress to pay their bill. Hailun reached over to grab the box of chocolates that the other boy had left behind. Teemo paid the bill and the three of them stood up to leave.

"Thanks, Teemo, for inviting me." Hailun said sheepishly.

Teemo nodded, feeling bad about how it turned out. "Yeah, it's fine."

They started to head out from the eaterie before a voice called to them.

"Wait!" Kennen called out from behind.

Hailun smiled upon seeing the bigger boy. "You feeling better?"

Kennen looked over at Teemo and then back at Hailun. "I'm sorry for how I acted Hailun..."

"Sorry? For what?" The red panda still hadn't been bothered by the other boy's actions despite how they played out.

The bigger yordle sighed. "Look...I invited you here and I shouldn't have left you alone."

"It's cool. I understand." Hailun said, wagging his tail behind him a bit.

Kennen reached out and took Hailun's free paw. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again. Do you forgive me?"

"Yeah, of course." The smaller cub was just happy to have him back around again.

Hailun handed back the boy his chocolates. "Your gift, remember."

"I didn't forget...but I have something for you too." Kennen said before shuffling one of his feet in the gravel.

"You do?" The other cub thought Kennen hadn't brought anything with him.

The bigger boy nodded. "Yeah but it's a surprise."

"You guys ready then? Kennen...you should grab your food since you didn't eat it before." Teemo suggested as he had other plans that he wanted to do with Tristana alone.

Kennen nodded and fetched his sandwich, which had been placed in a box for him to take home. A huge smile on his face as he returned to the group, eating while they stood around.

"If you want you guys can go on ahead. I'll catch up." Kennen suggested it to save time.

Hailun shook his head. "Nah, I'll wait for you."

"Alright, we'll see you two at school then. Tristana and I are going to head to the market." Teemo took his girlfriend by the hand and began walking off.

Tristana stopped Teemo a short distance away from them. "What did you tell Kennen anyways?"

"I told him what he needed to hear. He can't go leading on Hailun like that…boy or not. It's not right." Teemo looked back at the two boys.

She touched him on the shoulder. "You're a good person, Teemo."

"Thanks, Tristana. Let's let them be alone, I think that's what they want." Teemo reached behind him and goaded his girlfriend to follow him.

The red panda looked back at his friend who was still working through his food. When he was done, the smaller boy noticed that Kennen had some mustard on his lips. Reaching over to wipe it off, the other yordle couldn't help but blush. Kennen smiled before pulling him in, landing a kiss square on his lips. The two remained locked there for only a second or two. Hailun's face turned blood red as his heart beat rather quickly in his chest. Eventually, the smaller boy pulled away, both boys seeming rather flustered.

"I'm ready now...Hailun." The bigger boy said as he disposed of what was left in a nearby waste bin.

It took a few seconds for the red panda to recover. "Okay...where do you want to go?"

"Well, we shouldn't probably follow Teemo and Tristana. We could go to the park if you want." Kennen put the chocolates back under his arm.

Hailun shuffled his feet in the gravel. "Sure, the park sounds good Ken."

Hailun took hold of Kennen's hand again and the two began talking together towards the park. It didn't take them very long to get there as the park was but a short distance from the restaurant. The red panda kept a smile on his face, feeling rather happy being with his favorite person. Once they arrived at the park, the two made their way into the main complex under a huge canopy of trees.

Hailun saw a blaze of orange fur run past him. The familiar utterances of his old friend made it apparent who it was. Gnar stopped just in front of them.

"Gnar!"
 He growled slightly at Kennen.

"It's okay Gnar. He's with me now." Hailun patted his friend on the head.

The orange yordle snarled. "Ahanga fue huega."

"Sorry, Gnar…I didn't mean to hurt your buddy here but we've made up now." Kennen figured the other yordle owed an apology.

Gnar crossed his arms. "Mata rao."

"I appreciate you trying to help me, Gnar. You're a good friend but I promise I'm here with him because I want to be." Hailun tried to explain the situation to the other boy.

The orange yordle smiled. "Resshova."

"I promise I'll play with you later, okay? I wanna hang out with Kennen right now." Hailun removed his touch from the other boy and put it over the bigger cub's shoulder.

Gnar scampered off, running into the distance.

"You can go play with him if you want. I know he's a good friend of yours." Kennen suggested an alternative.

Hailun shook his head. "Nah, I want to spend some time with you today. He can wait. He understood what I said…I think."

"Haha…you never know with him but it looks like it." The bigger boy continued to lead them until they were near a pond.

The water in front of them was entirely still. Kennen brought his friend over to the side of the lake and moved right by the shore.

"We can chill here for a bit. It's relaxing here and no one will bother us." The bigger boy sat down and patted the ground next to him.

Hailun joined him and looked out at the lake. "It's nice out today."

"Yeah, how's your arm feeling anyhow?" The other yordle looked towards his friend.

The red panda shrugged. "It's alright. It doesn't hurt as much anymore and I'm supposed to get the sling off in a few days."

"That's good. You've been in it a while. It will be nice for you to be able to use your arm again." Kennen eased himself back so he was flat on the ground.

Hailun followed in suit, placing his body right next to the other cubs. "Hey, Kenny?"

"Sup, dude?" The bigger boy tried to relax a bit as the breeze brushed against the fur that wasn't covered by his clothing.

The red panda hummed. "I was thinking, do you wanna try it?"

"Try what?"  Kennen wasn't sure what he was talking about.

Hailun leaned up a bit. "The dating thing…I wouldn't mind trying it with you."

"I mean…we already went on a date today. Do you want to go out on another?" Kennen was pretty sure he had screwed up.

The smaller boy reached up and touched his friend's shoulder. "Uh-huh. You're super neat, Kennen."

"You don't care if people find out?"  The other yordle arranged himself so he was looking into the other boy's eyes.

The smaller boy shook his head. "Nah. I just wanna hang out more with you. I don't care what people think."

"Okay, Hailun…we can try. I promise I won't have another meltdown." The bigger boy hoped that would be the case at least.

Hailun reached in and hugged the other boy. "Cool, thanks."

The two shared the embrace for a few moments before breaking it.

"So, uh…does that make us boyfriends or whatever?" Hailun couldn't help but wonder.

Kennen shrugged. "I guess. I've never been in this kind of relationship before."

"Me either but I wouldn't want to share it with anyone else." The red panda gripped his friend's hand in his own.

The bigger boy smiled and looked out to the lake. "Say…do you wanna go for a swim?"

"A swim but…these clothing are expensive and neither of us brought a suit." Hailun thought about it a second.

Kennen hummed. "I guess you're right but we can always undress."

"And go naked? I don't think I want to do that in public…" Hailun said as he blushed a bit.

The other yordle shook his head. "Nah, like go in our underwear. Do you wanna?"

"Um…" Hailun scratched his chin for a second.

Kennen playfully shoved his shoulder into the other cub. "Come on…it will be fun. I promise."

"But what about my arm?" The red panda asked as he didn't want to reinjure himself.

The bigger boy stroked it. "Just be careful."

"Alright, it sounds fun." Hailun began struggling with his shirt unbuttoning the parts he could reach with his hand.

Kennen noticed he was struggling a bit and reached over to help him get it off. "Here."

The two worked to get the smaller boy's shirt off, throwing it to the side. Hailun couldn't help but blush at feeling a little helpless.

"Thanks. I can handle the rest. Can you turn around?" The red panda wasn't quite ready to undress the rest of the way in front of his friend.

Kennen nodded. "Good idea, let's get some privacy. I'll wait until you call me and meet you at the lake."

The bigger boy shoved himself into a bush. Hailun waited until he was out of sight before beginning to undress the rest of the way.  Getting off his shoes was simple enough but he struggled to kick off his pants. Effort persevered as he stood there in just a pair of silken boxers, socks, and the sling. Before long leaning over to remove the socks from his feet, stopping short of taking off his sling just to be safe.

Hailun began to pad towards the lake, noting the cold feeling of mud against his footpaws as he made his way toward the water. Stepping in slowly he tried to ease his body into the somewhat chilly pond.  Once the water was up to his neck he covered his eyes with his remaining hand.

"Alright, my eyes are covered. You can come." Hailun announced to the other boy so he was given the same privacy.

Kennen proceeded out of the bushes where he was hiding. His body shivered as he tried to adjust to the breeze against his fur and skin. Kennen was a little quicker to get in the water, pushing his way into the pond with very little hesitation. The bigger boy touched his friend on the shoulder to let him know that he was there.

"Cool. It's cold but the water is still nice." Kennen said as he tried to be reassuring about the situation to Hailun.

The red panda uncovered his eyes. "Yeah, it's better than just lazing about."

Kennen splashed the other boy a single time.

"No fair…" Hailun complained as the upper portion of his body was made wet.

The bigger boy smirked and pushed another wave of water toward his friend. Hailun tried to shield himself from the water but it was too late, he was soaked. The red panda tried to retaliate, finding it difficult to get much traction with one hand. Instead, he flattened his form and began paddling away. Kicking his feet hard so that they could splash the boy as he swam away.

Kennen shied away a bit but continued to smile. He reached forward and grabbed the other cub's ankle.

"Gotcha." The bigger boy made sure to not hold too tightly to not further injure his friend.

Hailun whined as he squirmed. "Lemme go!"

"I got a better idea." Kennen reached forward and attempted to tickle the bottom of the other boy's feet.

The smaller boy wiggled and writhed. "Stop…ahahahahah"

"Nope. Not until you say, uncle." The other yordle continued his ticklish assault, scratching the bottom of the other cub's feet with the tip of his nails.

Hailun continued to laugh and chuckle. "U-n-c-l-e…s-t-o-p."

Kennen smirked as he let go finally. The other boy pushed away further down the length of the lake.

"Catch me if you can…" Of course, Hailun knew Kennen was faster but he wanted to be caught.

The bigger yordle wasted no time in diving into the water and began following behind his friend. Hailun had already put some distance between them but Kennen was able to cover it in half the time since his friend only had one hand to paddle with. The bigger boy poked the smaller one as he swam right past him. Kennen poked his head above the surface and was greeted by the goofy grin of Hailun.

"What time do you have to be home anyways." Kennen asked as he didn't want to get the other boy in trouble.

Hailun hadn't thought about what time it was. "Before dark."

"Maybe we should go get dried up then. It's gonna take a while to get dry." The bigger boy suggested a way to save some time.

The red panda cub frowned. "Aw…but I was having fun."

"Me too but we gotta get you home. I don't want you to get in trouble. Do you want to get out first?" Kennen treaded in water to keep his head above water.

Hailun shrugged as he started to paddle back. The red panda's body slowly appeared above water. Kennen turned himself around since he didn't want to be a creep about it.

"Alright, I'm turned around you can get out." The bigger boy announced as he waited patiently.

The red panda shook his body, trying to get off some of the water. His lithe body still dripping as he stood there for a second. Sitting down before long and shielding his own eyes.

"Okay, your turn." Hailun wanted to give the other boy as much respect as he had been given.

Kennen made his way out and grabbed his clothing from the bush he had hidden them in. Picking up the small box of chocolate, which was now dripping with the stuff.

"Aw…the chocolate melted. Guess I didn't think about it…sorry, Hailun." Kennen frowned.

Hailun hesitated for a second. "Are you covered?"

"Wait a sec." Hailun brought a large frawn of leaf for both of them to cover themselves.

Kennen handed it to the other cub, remaining behind him. "You can use this to cover yourself…then we can dry off together."

"Alrighty." The red panda reached around until he clutched the leaf and put it around his waist.

The bigger boy soon joined him at his side, the two sitting next to each other. Kennen reached out this time to grab the other boy's hand and the two remained there for a while laying down together. They rested their eyes a bit as if to pass time, even daydreamed a bit.

Veigar had been nearby most of the day and had been hanging around with Vex, as he often did when he wasn't causing mischief. The dark yordle duo soon passed right by the spot where Kennen and Hailun were chilling out. The dark yordles spying two figures sprawled out with their hands join.

"Is that…Kennen and whatever that new kid's name was?" Veigar whispered to Vex so that they didn't
 alert as to their presence.

Vex peered over her friend's shoulder. "It appears so.

"Doesn't look like they are wearing much…I wonder if they were…" The boy couldn't help but jump to conclusions.

Vex contemplated using her shadow to find out. "I can find out if you truly wish, my lord."

"Yes…this is something I could use for my plans." Veigar rippled his fingers against each other.

The girl closed her eyes, summoning her shadow to her side. The figment fluttered and waved despite her form remaining in place.  She began to command it to slither its way toward the two boys in the distance. Its shadowy visage strung out and curled back and forth, breaking only when a tree came between it and its target. The thing engulfing Hailun's form but not making its presence elsewise known.

"Did it….just get cold, Hai?" Kennen shivered a bit.

Hailun looked over at the other boy. "No, why? Maybe you're getting sick. You want to get dressed and head out?"

"Yeah, sure. Okay." The bigger yordle said after thinking about it a few seconds.

Vex commanded the shadowy figure to retreat. Hailun's body warmth seemingly returned just as quickly as it had left him. The girl regaining control of her body.

"It seems they are a couple now my lord. Does this please you?" Vex said looking back towards Veigar.

Veigar cackled. "Oh, yes. Very much so. This is a most pleasing development. Let us make haste my minion…"

Vex and Veigar walked away together. Hailun continued to cover himself with the leaf before.

"Can you give me my clothes? It's kind of hard to grab them with one hand and all." Hailun asked the other boy for help.

Kennen leaned forward and picked up the garments before handing them to his friend. "I'll get read as well, then we can head to your place."

"Hailun dipped behind one of the bushes and changed back into his clothes. When he reappeared he saw that Kennen had already dressed as well. The bigger boy was looking at the box of chocolate.

"I'll get you another one. It's not a big deal. It's just chocolate." Hailun said sensing the other cub's disappointment.

Kennen looked back at his friend. "Oh, alright. Sorry…I guess I kinda forgot about them."

"It's cool. I still had a lot of fun with you today. We should hang out again soon." Hailun smiled widely at the thought.

The bigger boy smirked. "You mean another date? Sure…but no Teemo or Tristana next time."

"Sounds good. Shall we?" Hailun offered his paw out to his friend.

Kennen nodded before taking the other boy's hand in his own. The two started walking back out of the park.

Once they were outside the two realized the sun was beginning to set.

"We better hurry….you're parents said you need to be home before dark." Kennen warned his friend reminding him what they had told them earlier.

Hailun grabbed the bigger boy's shoulder. "It's okay. I…don't want to run. It still hurts my arm to bounce it around like that."

"Right, okay. Well…let's walk as fast as we can then." The bigger boy began to speed walk along with his friend.

The two were able to make a pretty good time and just as the sun was beginning to set, they arrived at Hailun's house.

"Thanks for inviting me today. I had a lot of fun." Hailun's tail wagged behind him casually.

Kennen looked down sheepishly. "Sorry about what happened at the restaurant."

"It's okay. I promise. I'm just glad we got to hang out today" The red panda figured his parents wouldn't mind a guest.

The bigger reached in to hug his friend. "Me too."

Hailun inadvertently took a sniff of Kennen's neck. Something about his scent was different but it wasn't a bad smell. The door suddenly opened as they were talking in front of it.

"Oh, hiya. Just in time, boys." Hailun's father peered his head out from the door, catching them separating the hug.

Hailun smiled at his dad. "Oh, hey Dad. This is Kennen, a friend of mine."

"Nice to meet you. Did you two boys have fun today?" The man stood patiently at the door, holding it open.

Kennen nodded. "Yes, sir. Thanks for letting him hang out with me."

"Certainly. Did you plan on staying for dinner?" The older red panda asked the boy.

The other yordle shook his head. "No, I appreciate the offer but I need to get home."

"Good night, Kenny." Hailun waved to his friend before showing himself inside.

Kennen started to leave the yard but just as he exited the yard, He looked at the melted box of chocolates in his hand. He still felt bad about how the day went and wanted to make it up to his friend. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that it had been a while since he ate. Thinking about it a second more he decided that he would take them up on the offer. Reapproaching Hailun's house he knocked and waited.

The door flung open again. "Oh, you're back?" The boy's father acted surprised.

"Would it be alright if I stay?" Kennen ground his feet in the gravel seeming nervous about asking.

The man stepped out of the door and held it open for him. "Of course. I will let your parents know."

Yordles used their magic to communicate with other yordles.

"Thank you, sir." Kennen bowed deeply.

The other boy's father let Kennen in. "Certainly. Hailun went to take a shower. It will be a short while but feel free to make yourself at home until dinner is ready. He will be surprised you're back."

"Okay." Kennen shuffled off his shoes as was customary for yordles when they entered someone's house.

The man pointed to the back of the home. "Hailun's room is back there. Feel free to wait for him there or you can hang out in the living room."

"Thanks again." Kennen looked around a bit as he had never been in the home before.

The man noticed the melting box of chocolate at the boy's side. "Do…you want me to take that?"

Kennen nodded and handed it off to the boy's father, not thinking much of it. The father looked at it for a second. He recognized it as the one Hailun had bought. Had his son given it to this boy? He couldn't be certain but it certainly appeared that way. He brought it to his wife to consult on the issue with her.

The home was very similar to his own. A single-story abode built out of wood with a low-hanging roof. Kennen looked at some of the paintings hanging on the wall. Many of them were of the boy's family at various times in his life. Even finding one of when Hailun when he was born, thinking how "cute" he looked as an infant. He popped his head into the kitchen and saw the boy's mother and father hanging out together by the stove. They looked at him as he entered.

"Are you lost? Dinner isn't ready yet." The woman said trying not to be rude about it.

Kennen shook his head. "No, I'm just looking around."

"Right, well….not much to see here. Just another kitchen." She looked over at her husband who was just as confused as she was.

"You guys need some help? I don't mind helping you out if you do." Kennen offered, trying to be helpful.

The husband got up from his chair. "If you like…you can help make dessert. Dinner is almost done."

"Okay, I can do that. I help my mom make cookies all the time." The boy said confidently.

The older man shrugged. "Suit yourself. There is a cookie mix in the pantry. Just…don't start a fire."

"I won't." Kennen started working on getting the necessary ingredients for cookies.

The other boy's parents remained close by watching him…just in case. Kennen had just started working on mixing the stuff in a small mixing. As was finishing up mixing it, Hailun bounded into the kitchen.

"Kenny! You decided to come!" Hailun chirped happily.

The boy's parents chuckled at their son's giddy attitude.

Kennen turned around. "Yeah, I was hungry and your parents said they would ask mine."

"Cool, thanks, mom and dad!" The cub's tail twitched behind him.

Hailun approached his friend behind him. "Whatcha, making?"

"Cookies. I'm almost done." Kennen poured them onto a pan and slid them into the already hot oven.

The smaller cub smelled something odd in the air. "What's that smell?"

"Probably the lake. I haven't bathed yet so…yeah." The bigger boy blushed a bit.

Hailun remembered the smell from before, trying to ignore it he looked back at his parents. "It doesn't smell that bad. Do you think he could borrow some of my stuff if he takes a shower?"

"Dinner will be ready soon and his parents want him back home after we're done." The father said sternly.

The cub frowned. "Aw okay."

"Maybe next time, champ. He can come over any day his parents are alright with it." The boy's mother scratched the back of her head.

Kennen got away from the stove. "I hope I don't smell too bad."

"It's okay. I'm just glad you're here." Hailun found something pleasant about the other boy's smell but he wasn't sure what it was.

The oven beeped before long. "Alright, boys. You can sit down. Dinner is ready."

Hailun and Kennen made sure to sit next to each other despite there being enough space to spread out. The boy's parents worked on serving up the dish.

"What would you like to drink, Kennen?" The boy's mother asked him to be a good host.

The bigger cub hummed. "Milk or tea is fine, thank you, ma'am."

She served both of the kid's milk before the two parents joined them at the table.  The extended family began to eat before long. Kennen was slightly nervous to be around the other boy's family but tried not to show it.

"So how was your day, boys? Do anything fun?" The mother asked to break the silence.

Kennen smiled. "Yeah, we went to have lunch and played at the lake."

"That sounds fun. What did you guys have for lunch?" She was certain there was more to it than what they were letting on.

Hailun chimed in. "Just some sandwiches. We went with some friends."

"That's good. Did you all go swimming I guess?" She knew both of them had smelt of the lake when they arrived and that Kennen still smelled like it.

Kennen nodded. "Yeah, we went swimming and then relaxed in the sun after."

All
of them were pretty hungry so they worked through the meal rather quickly. Kennen insisted to help with cleanup after, a chore that Hailun was more than happy to take him up on. The boy's parents were surprised that Hailun was so eager to volunteer for the chore as he usually didn't like doing it. When they were done the beeper for the oven sounded, signaling that the cookies were done.

"Are you staying for dessert?" Hailun asked, hopeful as ever.

Kennen wanted to stay but knew he should get home. "No, it's already late and I promised my parents I'd be home earlier. I'll see you at school alright?"

"Alright, cya Kenny." The red panda brought his friend to the door.

The two shared a hug again, not worried about the other boy's parents who still were watching them from afar. Kennen showed himself out, making his way back to the kitchen. The mother had already fished the tray of cookies out of the oven.

"I think this one is for you, little guy." She said with a smirk on her face.

Hailun walked over to see what his mother was talking about. She held it down so he could see the tray. Sure enough one of the cookies had been shaped like a heart.

"Oh…uh…I can explain." The cub said blushing a bit.

She panned it off the tray and placed it on a cookie for him to eat. "It's okay, honey. We already know."

"You do?" He took the cookie from her and blew on it a bit.

The boy's father nodded. "Yeah, we picked up on it. You made it kind of obvious. He seems like a nice kid, though."

"Cool, thanks…yeah, I like him." Hailun ground his socked foot into the floor.

The mother approached him and stroked her son on the back. "Whenever you want to talk about it, we're here for you. Alright?"

"Okay, mom and dad. Do you think he can come over next weekend?" Hailun asked as he figured it was already too late for the current one.

The father and mother looked at each other. "Sure, we don't mind if his parents are alright with it. Go on and eat your heart…lover boy."

The boy blushed as he blew into the cookie and began nibbling at it. He smiled widely and enjoyed the sweet morsel as it hit his taste buds. Hailun stretched and yawned.

"Time for you to go to bed. Good night, Hailun. We'll be in shortly to see you sleep."

Hailun nodded and began to make his way back toward his room. He was tired as it had been a long day. His heart was soaring high. He thought the day had gone fairly well, all things considered.  The cub crawled into bed and looked out the window into the stars. Twinkling lights and shining plants soared above, wishing only to see Kennen home safely. Tucking himself into bed he allowed sleep to overtake him, eager to see his friend the next week at school.
