Henery is a 41 year old Grey-headed flying fox from Brisbane, Australia. Jezling is a 35 year old Honduran fruit-eating bat from Nicaragua.
The two met at the nearby university in the big city, both taking courses in business, and married shortly after Henery graduated. Jezling is still currently attending the university. They moved to Punkston as a good location for an idea Jezling had. Home made frozen custard to sell to tourists visiting the historic town and neighboring national park.
The Custard's Last Stand is the name of their shop. It is located on the corner of an intersection on the main street of Punkston, just a couple doors down from Shirley's Bakery. The two businesses have formed a friendly rivalry while also cross promoting and co-oping. Custard's Last Stand specializes in authentic frozen custard, making unique flavors, concretes, cold stone hand mixing, milkshakes, and other various frozen ice cream treats. They timed their opening to be at the start of the year, in the winter, so that the locals could get familiar with them and get adjusted to the job so that they were prepared for the spring and summer tourist crowds. Their shop was a big enough success in the first year that they are already eyeing the small open space next door to expand.
Bats in the Punks Town universe have full connecting wings. This causes some unique issues with clothing options due to the membrane of their wings preventing proper tops to be worn. So most bats wear clothes like ponchos and robes. Jezling likes to wear more colorful ones as Henery wears more appropriate business colors. Ponchos with collars are a thing in this world for this very thing. He also owns a couple suits that use magnets to connect sides and sleeves to his wings so to look more socially appropriate if going to a big meeting. There is a specially made underwear for bats that is basically a G-string bathing suit, but made of more appropriate materials and form.
Now, I know you are all wanting to know if they can fly. No. The bat kin of the universe are too big and heavy for their wings to properly work. They can glide for short distances, but it can still hit the ground fast and hard if they are coming in from too high.
Bat children are known to be of envy on trampolines.
