This reminds me of a part of one of my stories, Clarence Coyote and Project Courier.
Project Courier is the code name for a time travel machine built during January of 1970. In the year 2018, eight year old Clarence Coyote fooled around with that time machine after being told to stay away from it. As a result of Clarence's disobedience, the time machine takes him back to the year 1960. During the journey through time, the time machine sustains electrical damage as a result of Clarence not knowing how to properly operate it, thus, eight year old Clarence Coyote finds himself stranded in a day and time before his parents were born, and before any of his grand parents were born. A coyote family in 1960 (Al, Marge and their cubs; Jed, Rex and Donna) discovers Clarence where the time machine landed. The family adopts Clarence as their own. They even registered Clarence to attend school. One of Clarence's adoptive brothers, Rex, was in the same 3rd grade class with him. Clarence and a neighborhood cub, Sheryl, fall in love with each other. The year 1960 was certainly a different world from what Clarence had known in the 21st Century. Six months after Clarence arrived to year 1960, several scientists who were designing the machine back then (Al Coyote also a scientist) succeeded in repairing the time machine so Clarence can return to his home day and time and with his original family...and with instructions how to properly operate the machine so he can make the journey back to 2018 okay. For Sheryl and Clarence Coyote, it was a sad evening having to part ways when it was time for Clarence to return to the future year he was from of 2018. During that six month stay in the year 1960, Clarence had a loving adoptive family where he could have a place to call home. And Clarence had acquired many close friends during those six months in 1960.
That turned out beautiful. This reminds me of a part of one of my stories, Clarence Coyote and Proj
