The Meeting:
Not long had passed since the human had fallen asleep before the Eleanor had resumed her duties. She had to remain home for the day watching over the kid as she knew leaving him alone was not an option due to his young age, as the hours passed she folded the boy’s clothes and proceeded to do some basic chores.
The white furred wolf was about to finish one last task, removing a stain from her eldest son’s shirt when she heard the front door open. She knew exactly what it meant her kids had just arrived from school.
“Mom, mom, mom!” Came a young voice from the hallway and soon the small wolf-cub made it’s way towards his mother, “is he here? Can I see him?” said the boy excitedly, he had never seen a human in person and he couldn’t wait to meet the new boy.
“Yes he is, but he’s sleeping. You’ll get a better chance to meet him when he’s awake.” The wolf said in a calm tone, “I hope you remember what I said about sharing a room, I just wanted to make sure that you’re ok with that, after all yo-” she continued before being interrupted by the smaller wolf, “I don’t mind it… much.” He thought for a while.
Before they could continue a familiar wolf came walking from the hallway, it was Edward. “Hey, mom.” He said before continuing towards his room, Edward has always been a quiet kid who preferred to keep it to himself while never wanting to socialize much. Oliver rolls his eyes at his older brother as he continues his march towards his room.
The wolves eventually go into their normal business which each one occupying a room of their liking, Edward of course remained in his room as his mother returned to her chores. “Mom, can I go to my room?” Eleanor looks to her side to see Oliver looking up at her with puppy-dog eyes, normally he wouldn’t ask but this wasn’t a normal situation, “Of course, sweety. Just make sure to not wake Arthur up.” She replied, “his name’s Arthur?” The young wolf tilted his head in curiosity. “Yes, make sure to be quiet and if he wakes up try going easy on him, alright?” Explained Eleanor, Oliver nodded his head excitedly before running towards his room making sure to stop before entering slowly, closing the door behind him.
“Oh…” was the only thing the cub could muster as he eyed the sleeping human from head to toe, he approached the sleeping boy as to watch over him for a while before deciding to lay down on his bed, a little scared of waking him up.
A few hours passed since their last interaction when the door was heard opening again to reveal Phillip, Eleanor’s husband. He was a tall, muscular wolf with pristine white fur. “I’m home dear.” Said the wolf in a calm tone, he was finally home after a long day of work.
“Dad?” Said Oliver who had just left his room after hearing the door opening, the young cub made his way to the living-room to greet his father.
“Hey sport, how was school?” The father asked smiling, “Good! I think I made a new friend!” Replied the kid enthusiastically to the surprise of Phillip who raised an eyebrow. “He’s gonna be sleeping in my room I think.” Continued Oliver to the surprise of his father who then looked at his wife with a curious look.
“I think he’s referring to Arthur.” She replied, the wolf relaxed a bit before responding, “So he’s here? Where?” Phillip was curious, he had previously agreed with his wife’s decision to adopt the kid though he was unsure if the new boy would be able to adapt to his new life, despite his doubts he knew how much it meant for his wife and was willing to give it a try, though he did not expect for the kid to warm up to him anytime soon or the other way around.
The she-wolf smiled, “he’s currently sleeping, I suggest we leave him be for now. He has been traveling for a few days, that must have exhausted him.” Eleanor stood up, “I was thinking about baking a meatloaf for dinner tonight, would you be up for it?”
“Yes, yes, yes, please mom!” Screamed the young pup, his mother however quickly shushed him, “Shh, calm down I was talking to your father.” The boy frowned and lowered his ears, “Sorry…” Phillip smiled before answering his wife’s questions, “That’d be lovely hon.”
The rest of the afternoon and evening went pretty uneventful, as the time passed it came the time for the family to prepare for the late night, Eleanor and Phillip retired to their room around 8 in the evening as they have always done, around an hour or so later Oliver and Edward followed into their own respective rooms, having showered and brushed their teeth previously. The boys parted ways, Edward faked a yawn before entering his room while Oliver waved a paw at him, the younger cub knew all too well that his older brother was most definitely going to stay up late as he always did before.
Oliver closed the door before him, taking a quick glance at the human who seemed to still be deep in his sleep. The wolf-cub couldn’t help but wonder what Arthur was like, friendly, shy? He was all too uncertain of how it’d be to share a room with someone else again, it had been a while since him and Edward had both gotten their own separate rooms. Tiredness however took the best of him and he soon found himself laying on the bed, drifting in and out of sleep before finally relaxing and entering the world of dreams.
Darkness, Arthur found himself in a dark place however he was not scared, he actually didn’t feel anything. With time however, the world became brighter and he could see that he was surrounded by white space with flying blocks around him, it all felt so weird and surreal to him. Darkness, not long after he began to question where he was the world immediately turned dark and he could feel something warm on him, opening his eyes Arthur could see that he was covered by a blanket, he couldn’t remember how the blanket got on top of him, probably by himself while he slept he thought.
As he scanned his surroundings, he noticed a strange figure laying by the bed, it looked like a person but he could see by his silhouette that the being had long, pointy ears. The boy’s body was being illuminated by the moonlight which invaded the room from it’s open window.
Arthur felt a small surge of fear deep within himself, he had never been in a closed room with a beast-man before, sure he had seen them before in school after moving to this new country but he was always surrounded by human in the region he used to live in, now not only he was in a place where humans were much rarer but he also was also feeling trapped like an animal in a room with not only a beast-man but a carnivore, a wolf and soon the boy found himself buried under his blanket, his brain going a mile an hour.
It didn’t take long though for him to finally calm down, he remembered Eleanor, how the motherly wolf had not only chosen to care for him, how kind she seemed to have, even the lick she gave him. He’d never been licked before, “this is not something humans do…” he thought. Soon his curiosity got the best of him and he found himself stepping up from his mattress-bed, still covered in his blanket only revealing his face as he approached the sleeping wolf.
After closing the distance, the human boy looked at the wolf’s face, he could see his eyes closed, his black nose and that slightly open maw with those long, scary fangs.
His curiosity only grew, he wanted to know more. Deep down the smaller human boy was hating himself for not being able to just stay on his mattress, sleeping for the rest of the night. He could barely do anything as his hand seemed to come to life, moving towards the wolf boy’s face to feel his cheek. The fur was warm and nice to the touch, Arthur was practically praying internally for the wolf to not wake up, he somehow managed to retake control over his hand, pulling it back quickly.
He sighed but just as he thought that this would all be over, the wolf opened his eyes moving his face slightly to look at the human who stared at him wide-eyed.
The wolf smiled, reaching out his hand to touch the human in the cheek. “Hi.” He’d say on a low tone, almost whispering at the human.
Arthur blushed and turned his face away, he felt more embarrassed than scared, he opened his mouth but no words came out. Oliver sensed that, the wolf-cub grinned as he sat down on his bed.
“I’m Oliver, you’re… Arthur?” Said the pup still wearing that silly grin. “No, I’m the Little Prince.” Thought Arthur, he felt like the question was a little dumb though he still decided to answer it, “Y-yeah, you’re O-Oliver r-right?” His answer came out a lot shyer than he had expected, he couldn’t keep himself from stuttering to the wolf’s amusement whose tail waged in response.
Oliver let out a chuckle, he wanted to know more about the human. “You slept a lot.” He said, still whispering causing Arthur the frown a little, “I was tired… it’s not my fault.” replied the human in a loud whisper.
The pair remained there for a few seconds which seemed more like minutes to the young human, their moment being broken by Arthur who moved away after feeling the wolf’s paw on his cheek again. “Hey, it’s ok I’m not gonna hurt you.” The wolf frowned a bit at the human’s reaction as he didn’t expect Arthur’s reaction. “S-sorry…” said the human, without understanding why he leaned in closer to Oliver’s paw, he could feel it’s touch, it’s claws. He had never been felt like this before, not even by another human, the feeling wasn’t bad though he wish Oliver would trim his claws a bit more often as he feared what would happen to his face if the wolf decided to claw him.
“Why humans are so furless?” Oliver tilted his head as he made his question. “I don’t know… but I guess it’s just how I am.” The human responded with a shrug, it seemed that his stuttering had died out as he got more comfortable around the wolf.
Oliver yawned, his body was telling him that it was time to quit exploring his friend’s face and sleep. “Hey Arthur, is it ok if I keep the window open? Won’t you feel cold?” He asked. “No I don’t, it’s ok if you keep it open…” The human replied, the night was relatively warm even for a summer night and the human didn’t even feel like the blanket on top of him was necessary, he quickly tossed it back to his mattress across the room before turning to the yawning wolf again.
“A-are you going to sleep? You’re yawning a l-lot.” The human asked with a chuckle, it had been the first time he smiled in a long, long while. “Yeah, I think I will.” Despite his excitement, Oliver knew his limits and he knew all too well that he wouldn’t be able to keep his eyes open for very long. “Good night, Arthur.” The wolf continued as he turned to his side to sleep leaving Arthur as the only person awake in the house besides Edward.
The human would look around the room for his phone, finding it on a small desk. Having grabbed his phone, the human head outside the room, walking downstairs towards the kitchen, his stomach was hurting due to it’s emptiness and he knew it wouldn’t let him sleep until it had it’s will satiated.
The boy opened the fridge, figuring Eleanor wouldn’t mind it much if he grabbed a quick bite. There he saw something that made his mouth water, it was the family’s leftovers of their dinner and Arthur was quick to grab a plate after searching for one around the kitchen, putting a large piece on his plate before heating it up in the microwave. It wasn’t long before he sat on one of the chairs, munching on his meal.
Once he was done, the boy took his dishes to the sink, quickly washing it before returning to the bathroom.
The human quickly searched for his toothbrush, not finding it. After some thinking he figured Eleanor could’ve taken it to the bathroom and so he made it there where he found it, Arthur proceeded to brush his teeth quickly before returning to the room where he took a few glances at Oliver who sleeped peacefully on the bed.
“Not so scary…” he thought to himself before laying on the mattress where he caught himself staring at the ceiling for a few minutes which seemed a lot longer than it actually was as he slowly drifted back into sleep. He had no idea of what tomorrow would bring to him, the thought of it was still a little scary but he was not a weak boy and he knew that, though he still doubted it sometimes.
