christmas is lucas's birthday, and for quite a while in their youth, ree and bee would go over annually to celebrate with him! the party would start on christmas eve where they "pregamed" lucas's birthday party and christmas, and then the next morning theyd wake up and be able to open all their presents together! and lucas, as usual, would have the biggest pile. ree never minded but bee couldnt stand it especially when he'd get new pants or something instead of a toy

for ref, ree and bee got to know lucas & ida because lucas's father and ree's father are good friends from high school. they ended up losing touch with eachother late middle school when ree's father stopped getting visitation for ree and bee & ida ended up being hospitalized later on. rea's mom did end up befriending kiki when ree and bee got into highschool, allowing ree and lucas to hang out again but it was awkward bc of how mentally ill both of them had become lol

as adults, they've rebirthed this old tradition because of how much it means to lucas and how they all sorta mourn the positive energy the tradition gave them

i based the vibes off when i used to go over my cousin's or grandma's for christmas and wake up for presents. those flat white boxes were the bane of my existance because i wanted pokemon, not an outfit
