Asterix!  I haven't seen that short Viking in more years than I care to admit to.

He's Gaul rather than a viking, but you got the name right...

Well, it has been a while since I saw any of his comics.  LOL.  Anyway, I do remember he had a BIG friend but I can't remember his name.

That'd be Obelix, who fell into the cauldron of magic potion as a child. ;)

That's right.  Thanks.  Didn't they also do some animated shorts with Asterix?  For some reason, I seem to recall seeing one a long time ago.

Shorts? They made full length animated movies, several of them in fact!
My favourites were The Twelve Tasks of Asterix and Asterix VS Caesar. Twelve Tasks is a bit more cartoony and silly, while VS Caesar is a bit more mature and even a bit scary. The scene where Asterix almost drowns in a prison cell terrified me as a kid... But the movie's still fun for the most part, and has some surprisingly good music.

I must have seen scenes taken from the movies and thought they were normal cartoon shorts.  That's my only explanation for thinking what I thought.  But, I do remember seeing drawings of him and Obelix many years ago.

Oh I don't doubt that. Asterix had a golden age during the 90's afaik, given how the first (and best) live-action movie starring the gauls was released in 1999. "Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar"
Imo, you can just ignore the rest of the live action movies, since they're just varying levels of trash. But the animated movies, even past the millenium shift, are decent at worst.

Asterix didn't have animated shorts.
The first animation he had was Asterix the Gaul, of 1967.
The great curiosity is that the dog Idefix, in that movie, doesn't appear because he had not yet been created.

(This is a copy of my response to DarkBlue666.  But, I didn't know if you'd see it otherwise.)

Ah, my childhood! I used to watch the animated movies of this guy all the time.
