I'd make some joke here, but I got literally no clue how Mahjong works ;w;

Hai hai
Finished this reward for Tsukari =w=, he wanted to do a dramatic pose while playing Mahjong on a "got you" sort of way~
I'm not good at dynamic poses tbh, but I hope it came out good xD
Hope the effects weren't too much~, lol

That stick is one of the betting tokens used in Mahjong. This one with the red dot is used when betting "Riichi", a special bet you make mid-game where you essentially are saying "I am one piece away from a winning hand."

It has some special requirements to make this bet, mostly that all the pieces in your hand have to have come from the draw pile, and not discards, and thus it's harder to do it in a game since you rely on good planning and a bit of luck to get there, so it is intimidating as heck to see.

It's like calling Uno- they're about to win. It's a declaration and challenge all in one. If you don't stop them, they're gonna score a lot of points (and money) all at once.

In other words this is exactly the pose you get in your head when you make that bet. Well done!

I knew this piece was important, but didn't know it was this important/impactful xD
Why would anyone declare one is about to win tho? wouldn't that like...I don't know the game, but wouldn't that make people put extra effort to stop you from winning? like how in Uno people can join forces to use +2 and the such to stop the winning person. In uno you are meant to declare this position, but Mahjong's sounds like not even possible every game |3c
Also thank you~ hehehe.

So Mahjong's kinda weird. When you sit down at a table, everyone puts their money up front as points (Usually starting at around 20,000 points, regardless of the actual money up for grabs), and when you win, you take points from other players. If you won, and your last piece came by drawing from the draw pile (called Tsumo), the points come out of all three other players' pockets evenly, but if you win by taking someone's discard (called Ron), then the winnings come out of that person and that person alone.

How much you get to take from their points depends on what's in the hand when you reveal your winning hand, with the more special noteworthy patterns and things (called Haku) being worth more. For instance, if you win with a hand of 7 pairs, or if you only used green pieces. There's a whole lot of 'em, but you can financially nuke someone out of half their points or more with a good enough hand.

A Riichi bet requires you to put 1,000 of your points up for grabs, but it also counts as one of those Haku, allowing you to potentially get more points back than you put in. (A lot more if you have lots of other Haku!)

It's also intimidating as heck since it means you're close to winning, and thus close to taking a LOT of points from anyone who discards the last piece you need. Because nobody wants you to win by taking their discard; that means you take THEIR money with whatever hand you've built up! People suddenly go on edge and get a lot more careful about what they're discarding, and if they weren't close to winning before, they might back off entirely and focus simply on surviving the round instead.

In short, yeah, they do try to team up to stop you, but that means they're not focusing on winning either~

Lmao, I didn't think this game had such a Poker vibe behind it, with a stronger planning aspect behind it, that's fascinating |3c
Don't think I'd ever be able to play it~, haha. But that's rather interesting!
Thank you for taking the time for the explanation uwu, I appreciate it <3
