I get that, but why not just don't teach them anything? Normal human response to that kind of thing is violence, which, in this case, is actually the appropriate response. Teaching them shit like this creates confusion when the moment actually comes.
Again, my neices are being taught traditional Okinawan karate. I would strongly suggest anyone who has young children in their family choose Okinawan karate, because we focus more on actually being able to cripple and/or kill people than on looking cool while we do it. As for our philosophy with children, we encourage fighting until they are able to run away.

If you can find a traditional Tae Kwon Do school, then yeah, go for it. That can kill somebody just as easy as Karate can. The problem is it is difficult to find a traditional teacher. Most all of the Tae Kwon Do schools I tried taught Olympic style, with no thought or emphasis placed on being able to actually fight.
And I know that tradition in martial arts is kinda tedious and pointless, but it's been working for longer than recorded history, so put up with it. Trust me, it's worth it. 10 years and a 3rd degree black belt at a modern school didn't mean anything when I found my current dojo. Even the novices were so much better and stronger than me that it was frightening.

That's good. If you stick with it, it's the best thing you'll ever do. But assuming you're an adult, if you haven't had any martial arts training before this point, your real best bet would be to get a firearm and learn how to use it. It'll take a good 5 or 10 years to be any good at a traditional style, but it'll only take a few months to become proficient with a handgun.
